Translates Latin!   - Karen Krettler - Jan 2, 2011 - Report this comment

Hurray! A simple, easy to use, translator that will translate quotes from Latin to English. Also, provides additional source information with links to Wikipedia, where applicable.

Babylon is not doing anything. Not showing in full screen and not making any translation. Firefox 3.5.3

Problem removing babylon 8  David Himes - Sep 2, 2009 - Report this comment

I added babylon 8 to igoogle, but was annoyed that each time my igoogle page loads, babylon loads a new tab with it's home page. Igoogle is my home page and each time I hit the home button, a new babylon tab appears. So I removed the babylon widget, but the new babylon tab keeps appearing, like a malware program. I've deleted every gadget on igoogle and still can't get rid of the babylon tabs. Very frustrating.

Dictionary, yes; Translator, no   - Rhonda Smith - Jul 10, 2008 - Report this comment

I tested this by putting the phrase "casa de la selva" in the box... there were no matches. That is a simple Spanish phrase (house of the jungle). So then I put in "jungle." I got the English definition, but no translation.

Translation widgets tested....   - JAVA DIVA - May 8, 2008 - Report this comment

I tested five widgets d/l'd to my iGoogle page after searching Gallery > tools > "translate". Here are the results: ****Babylon Box is fine for individual word translations, etymology, and overall background/discussion of a translated word, however it will NOT handle phrases, not even simple two-word phrases. If all you need is the occasional stray word translated, then use the settings to choose the language you want to translate INTO, return to the white "GO' box at front and enter whatever word you need translated from your native language. It works quickly enough, no perceptible hanging/freezing before results are listed. A large box opens on your iGoogle page to display your results -- some people will like that, others might rather not have their other iGoogle widgets dislocated by this. ****Of the two "Google translate" widgets, the one showing Google as its developer works beautifully, smoothly, and translated one full sentence perfectly into the 5 languages I speak. I agree with previous comments by users regarding more polished settings and options for this tool (current hardwired default of English to German, but for simplicity the Google Translate by Google works quite well. Another developer has posted a widget also called Google Translate, but (1) the GUI is subtly different from the Google product and (2) the "inline warning" is off-putting to people concerned about computer and web security issues. The remaining two translation widgets tested shall remain nameless in expectation that the developers will restore them to functionality. As of today, those 2 widgets did not work.
