技术领域
本发明是关于无线通信。尤其是,本发明是处理WLAN-UMTS互通(interworking)。
背景技术
在无线局域网络(WLAN)环境下运作的通用行动系统(UMTS)并且希望接入UMTSs的订户,例如移动站(UEs),可能遭受在那些区域内接入UMTSs时的成本的重大需求,当那些UMTS系统接入需要大量成本时。
本发明提供一种不需要承受此种实质成本而接入UMTS的较低成本的方法。本发明系统包括在WLAN系统的下的一UMTS系统。此UMTS被提供一个做为在WLAN环境内运作的UMTS用户的UMTS射频前端(front end)的用的传接器。UMTS系统与用户(UE)之间的接口经由WLAN接口而被取得。
此WLAN系统转换所接收的UMTS消息及/或预登录用户的话务(traffic)为将被传输给在WLAN环境下运作的用户的适合WLAN传输用的格式。此外,WLAN转换被传输的消息及通信流为UMTS格式,其随后藉由支持WLAN系统的UMTS传接器被传输至该UMTS系统。此WLAN用户使用翻译器经由UMTS空中接口而获得对UMTS接口的接入。

具体实施方式
图1表示可用以解释UMTS系统12与WLAN系统14之间的互通的设置10。图1的设置10将结合以UMTS为基础的服务传递用的技术而被描述,当一移动站,例如一远程终端,受到该WLAN系统服务时。
参照图2,以及适当的图1,其表示类似图1的设置。
为简化的目的,仅表示出一移动站24,可以了解的是数个此种移动站由WLAN 14服务。虽然此移动站远程终端(UE)24也可以是一种能够与WLAN及UMTS通信的双模式终端,为本发明的目的使用具有WLAN能力的终端24。
用户终端(UE)24,经由其WLAN能力24a,于步骤S1向WLAN 14登录。随后WLAN 14在步骤S2登录UMTS服务监视,与UMTS传接18通信用的用户识别(ID)。UMTS传接器18为任何对已登录的用户识别(ID)所宣告的服务而被调整。在步骤S3,当一UMTS服务,例如一呼叫(page),短讯服务(SMS),多媒体消息服务(MMS)或类似服务将被传递时,UMTS 12传输此一服务,例如给予一呼叫消息。在步骤S4,UMTS传接器18,通常来自一射频塔26,经由UMTS空中接口28传输该呼叫消息至一接收射频塔30,至一格式转换器16,其于步骤S5转换目前的格式(UMTS)为WLAN消息格式,并在步骤S6以WLAN格式传递该呼叫消息至WLAN 14。WLAN 14在步骤S7传递该消息至移动终端24。在步骤S8从终端24传输一个响应至WLAN14,该响应在步骤9被传输至格式转换器16,并且在步骤S10从该处被传输至UMTS传接器18,最后在步骤S11传输至UMTS 12。
图3表示类似图2所示的终端24,其经由其WLAN能力24a在步骤S1对WLAN 14登录。WLAN 14在步骤S2传输该用户登录至格式转换器16,其于步骤S3将该格式改变为UMTS消息格式,并且在步骤S4提供指向UMTS传接器18的UMTS分组切换(PS)UMTS附件。UMTS传接器18在步骤S5传输附加至UMTS 12的UMTS PS。
此PS附加完成的消息在步骤S6从UMTS 12被传输至UMTS传接器18,以及在步骤S7从UMTS传接器18传输至格式转换器16。在步骤S8格式转换器16改变该PS附加为WLAN消息格式,并且在步骤S9传递该消息至WLAN 14,其于步骤10提供该消息至移动终端24。从终端24至WLAN 14的响应在步骤S11发生,在步骤S12从WLAN 14至格式转换器16,在步骤S13从格式转换器16至UMTS传接器18,以及在步骤S14从UMTS传接器18至UMTS12,藉此完成该响应。

Claims (6)

1.一种无线终端通过一无线局域网络(WLAN)连接来接入一通用移动通信系统(UMTS)服务的方法,包含:
该终端通过该WLAN登录,并要求一用户识别;
响应该终端通过该WLAN登录,为了一UMTS服务监视的目的,该WLAN通过在该UMTS上的一UMTS传接器来登录该终端的用户识别;
响应登录该终端的用户识别,该UMTS传接器监视将传递至该终端的UMTS服务消息;
当检测到一个将传递至该终端的UMTS消息时,该UMTS把该服务消息转发至该UMTS传接器;
该UMTS传接器通过一UMTS空中接口来把该UMTS服务消息直接传送到该WLAN上的一格式转换器;
该格式转换器把该UMTS服务消息转换成一WLAN消息格式;
该格式转换器以WLAN消息格式把该UMTS服务消息通信至该WLAN;以及
该WLAN以WLAN格式把该UMTS服务消息传递至该终端。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法,还包含:
该终端发送一认知消息(ACK)给该WLAN;
该WLAN把该ACK转发给该格式转换器;
该格式转换器把该ACK转换为一UMTS消息格式;
该格式转换器以UMTS消息格式把该ACK转发至该UMTS传接器;以及
该UMTS传接器以UMTS消息格式转发该ACK至该UMTS。
3.一种无线终端通过一无线局域网络(WLAN)连接来接入一通用移动通信系统(UMTS)服务的方法,包含:
该终端通过该WLAN登录,并决定一用户识别;
响应该终端通过该WLAN登录,该WLAN把用户登录转发至该WLAN上的一格式转换器;
该格式转换器把该登录的格式改变为一UMTS消息格式,使用UMTS消息格式的该登录来提供一UMTS分组切换(PS)附件,并通过一UMTS空中接口把该UMTS PS附件直接指向一UMTS传接器;
该UMTS传接器把该UMTS PS附件转发至一UMTS,其中该终端的用户识别是为了一UMTS服务监视的目的而登录;
该UMTS提供一PS附件完成消息,并把该PS附件完成消息转发给该UMTS传接器;
该UMTS传接器通过该UMTS空中接口而把该PS附件完成消息直接转发到该WLAN上的该格式转换器;
该格式转换器把该PS附件完成消息的格式转换成一WLAN消息格式,并以WLAN消息格式来把该PS附件完成消息传递至该WLAN;以及
该WLAN以WLAN格式把该PS附件完成消息指向该终端。
4.如权利要求3所述的方法,还包含:
该终端发送一PS附件完成认知消息给该WLAN;
该WLAN把该PS附件完成认知消息转发给该格式转换器;
该格式转换器把该PS附件完成认知消息的格式转换为一UMTS格式,且通过该UMTS空中接口而以UMTS格式把该PS附件完成认知消息发送至该UMTS传接器;以及
该UMTS传接器以UMTS格式发送该PS附件完成认知消息至该UMTS,从而完成认知。
5.一种支持通过一无线局域网络(WLAN)连接来接入一通用移动通信系统(UMTS)服务的系统,包含:
一WLAN,包含:
该WLAN经配置用以登录一无线终端并决定该终端的一用户识别;
响应登录该终端以及决定该终端的用户识别,为了一UMTS服务监视的目的,该WLAN经配置成通过一UMTS来登录该终端的用户识别;以及
一格式转换器,包含:
该格式转换器经配置以接收WLAN消息,把该WLAN消息的格式转换成一UMTS格式,并通过一UMTS空中接口而以UMTS格式传送该WLAN消息;以及
该格式转换器经配置以通过一UMTS空中接口而接收UMTS消息,把该UMTS消息的格式转换成一WLAN格式,并以WLAN格式来把该UMTS消息传送给该WLAN的一接入点;以及
一UMTS,包含:
该UMTS经配置以为了一UMTS服务监视的目的而登录一终端用户识别;
该UMTS经配置成监视该终端用户识别的UMTS服务消息;以及
一UMTS传接器,该UMTS传接器经配置成通过一UMTS空中接口直接在该UMTS传接器与该格式转换器间递送消息。
6.如权利要求5所述的系统,其中该UMTS传接器进一步经配置成为了一UMTS服务监视的目的来登录该终端用户识别,并监视该终端用户识别的UMTS服务消息。
