技术领域
本发明大体而言涉及自动定位确定,且更具体而言,涉及(但并不限于)确定无线装置的定位。
背景技术
人们越来越希望知道各种移动装置的地理位置。例如,蜂窝式电话运营商正设法满足在紧急情况下对手持受话器进行定位的需求。在知道位置后,便可派遣急救人员帮助解决紧急事故。知道地理位置还具有许多其他目的,例如与地理位置相关联的广告、儿童监护、对被假释人进行自动监视、911回复(Reverse 911)、车辆跟踪等。
在某些情况下,传统的定位技术很难精确地判定位置。当天空不晴朗时,基于卫星的定位系统不精确。基于地面的系统需要与多个基站进行通信,所述基站在三边测量期间用作已知的基准,但在某些情况下,由于所述系统主要设计用于通信目的,所以在所述移动装置的通信范围内没有足够多的地理上分散的基站。即使在可与多个基站进行通信时,由多个路径引起的不精确性也会降低判定精确定位的能力。
传统的定位技术使无线电话与和所述无线电话所订购的服务相关联的基站进行交互作用。基站的历书向所述无线电话指示所述基站所处的位置。在大多数场合下,至少有一对基站对所述无线电话是可见的。
蜂窝式电话用于存储额外信息的存储器通常有限。在蜂窝式电话网络中,不断地添加、移除或重新定位基站。基站的历书有时被发送给蜂窝式电话以帮助确定定位。在某些蜂窝式电话上,传送并存储大的历书是不切实际的。
发明内容
本发明揭示用来判定无线装置的定位的一种方法和系统。在一个实施例中,判定所述定位是依靠访问至少一个协作基站及至少一个非协作基站。所述协作基站提供可能靠近所述无线装置的基站的历书。在范围内的协作基站和非协作基站二者都可用来确定所述无线装置的定位。所述非协作基站通常不可用于所述无线装置,但可用来确定距所述无线装置的距离。在所述无线装置试图在所述非协作基站上传送数据或语音时,既可能会受到也可能不会受到所述非协作基站的妨碍。
在一个实施例中,减少基站的数量,以产生基站的特制的历书。所述特制的历书包括用于唯一地识别每一基站的信息,且可包括所述基站的定位信息。
在另一实施例中,可使用任何数量的不同的基站类型。所述基站可为蜂窝式电话基站、无线局域网、无线广域网、卫星、地面定位信标、或能够通过一种方式以某种模式与所述无线装置进行无线通信的任何其他装置,所述方式可唯一地识别所述装置并进行距离测量。
在各种其他实施例中,所述无线装置的大体定位以不同的方式确定。各种实施例可使用整合到所述电话中的定位功能、当前协作基站和所假定的小区覆盖区、用于查找重叠的小区覆盖区的多个基站、用于对位置进行三边测量的多个协作基站、用于对所述位置进行三边测量的基站和卫星、及/或能够确定范围和角度的一个或多个协作基站。如同基站一样,不同的无线装置具有不同的功能,从而可有多种所使用的方法。

具体实施方式
首先参见图1A,其显示定位确定系统100-1的实施例的方框图。定位确定系统100使无线装置120能够查找其地理定位或者由远程实体使用卫星152(如GLONASS,GPS,Galileo,EGNOS,Globalstar,IRIDIUM)及/或基站112,124(如蜂窝式电话基站、无线局域网、无线广域网、卫星电话、卫星因特网或能够被唯一识别并与无线装置120通信的任何其他装置)加以定位。
在本实施例中,协作基站112通过广域网(WAN)110耦合到历书处理器112,但其他实施例可使用局域网(LAN)。历书处理器122访问基站数据库144,以根据无线装置120的估测定位来特制或定制历书。
无线装置120能够与任何数量的装置通信,以提供定位信息。在本实施例中,无线装置120是蜂窝式电话,其可具有任何数量的通信模式(如GSM,CDMA,TDMA,WCDMA,OFDM,GPRS,EV-DO,WiFi,蓝牙,WiMAX,802.xx,UWB,卫星等)或所述通信模式的任何组合,以便通过其基站112、124利用蜂窝式网络、卫星网络、无线数据网络及/或格栅网络传输语音及/或数据。在其他实施例中,无线装置120可为跟踪装置、儿童或被假释人监视器、导航装置、无线寻呼机、无线计算机、PDA、资产标签等。
每个无线装置120所支持的通信模式存储在装置能力数据库140中,装置能力数据库140包含有助于确定由在任何数量的通信模式下运行的特定无线装置120所进行的每个定位或距离测量的不确定因素的信息。
本实施例显示协作基站112、非协作基站124和卫星定位信标152,其可分别具有不同的通信模式。例如,蜂窝式基站112、124可支持TDMA和GSM,一个卫星基站可仅支持CDMA,或另一卫星基站可仅支持TDMA。

基站数据库144存储所述识别符信息,所述识别符信息可用于唯一识别该类基站中的每一基站。例如,每个WiFi基站可包括作为识别符信息的MAC地址。作为另一实例,CDMA基站识别符可包括SID、NTD和基本ID或SID、MSC ID和基本ID。基站112、124的特征可用于唯一识别基站112、124。例如,假如两个基站具有同一个站识别符,但仅有一个基站支持一特定的通信标准,则这两个基站可得到唯一识别。通常,无线装置120支持各种通信模式的一子集。存储在基站数据库144中的信息还有定位信息,其是通过勘察具有所述无线装置的区域来针对每个基站112、124加以确定。
在一个实施例中,无线装置120可用于确定每个基站112、124的定位,然后将所述位置报告回给历书处理器112。每个基站112、124的来自各无线装置120的所述定位信息由历书处理器112进行汇总,以更新基站数据库。当收集到更多的定位数据点时,根据无线装置120提供的所述定位信息的精度对所述定位数据点进行加权,且使用所述定位数据点越来越精确地判定所述基站的位置。每个无线装置120的精度可被存储在装置能力数据库140中,对于无线装置120可收集所述信息的不同方式,其可具有不同的精度。无线装置120在对其定位的了解方面所具有的任何不确定性也可在基站数据库144的精度加权中反映出来。
无线装置120可使用各种定位信标来帮助确定定位。本实施例使用卫星定位信标152,但也可使用伪卫星和地面信标系统(如LORAN)。通常,定位基准越多,就能越好地确定无线装置120的定位。
本实施例说明与协作基站112分立的历书处理器122,但在其他实施例中,每个协作基站112或一类协作基站112也可具有历书处理器112及/或数据库140、144。某些实施例可将历书处理器112整合到无线装置120内。基站及/或装置能力数据库144、140也可位于无线装置120内并定期更新。
下面参见图1B,其中显示定位确定系统100-2的另一个实施例。在某些实施例中,基站数据库144集中地定位,但在本实施例中,基站数据库144作为本地历书158按地区分布或分布于与每个协作基站112或一类协作基站112相关的各部分中。例如,第一基站112-1可将基站数据库114中对应于其自身覆盖区和所有相邻基站覆盖区的一部分存储于第一本地历书158-1中。在另一个实例中,第一本地历书158-1可包含用于所有或所选的一组CDMA基站的基站数据库。在又一个实例中,第一历书158-1可能不按地理位置加以组织,而是包含作为特定服务提供商网络的一部分的基站。当对集中定位的基站数据库144进行更新时,这些改动会传播到可能使用新信息的各本地历书158。
本实施例不使用卫星定位信标152或其他类型的定位信标,但具有一个或多个通信卫星基站154用于语音及/或数据通信。通信卫星基站154的本实施例可以具有、但不具有本地历书158及/或数据库140、144。通信卫星基站154依靠历书处理器122来产生特制的历书。卫星地面站160与历书处理器122通过WAN 110进行通信。
下面参见图1C,其中显示定位系统100-3的又一实施例。在本实施例中,协作基站112耦合到局域网(LAN),所述局域网耦合到历书处理器122及装置能力数据库和基站数据库140、144。装置能力数据库和基站数据库140、144中的信息可使用WAN或类似网络进行定期更新或与这些数据库的远程主版本相协调。本实施例中的卫星基站154还包括历书处理器122及装置能力数据库和基站数据库140、144,尽管该层详细情况未在本图中显示。
参见图2A和2B,其显示单个小区定位系统200的实施例的图式。协作基站112具有小区覆盖区204,在小区覆盖区204内,协作基站112可与无线装置120进行通信。图2A显示该小区覆盖区204内的非协作无线基站124。
有时,无线装置120几乎不位于小区覆盖区204内来与协作基站112进行通信,但能够与该小区覆盖区之外的非协作基站124进行通信,如图2B所示。小区缓冲区208将包括位于协作基站112的范围之外、但可能位于协作基站112范围内的无线装置120的范围之内的非协作基站124。图中显示基站124的处于小区覆盖区之外、但处于无线装置120的通信范围之内的非协作基站覆盖区212。将该基站124包含在小区缓冲区208之内即会适应这种情况。
在本实施例中,无线装置120处于单个协作基站112的通信范围内。在协作基站112的小区覆盖区204内,有十一个非协作基站124。小区缓冲区208内有两个额外的非协作基站124。当历书处理器122接收到要得到特制的历书的请求时,包括所述十三个可能的非协作基站的信息。

由于无线装置120可与各种类型的基站具有不同的通信模式,因而对于每种类型的基站通信模式而言,所述厚度可能不同。另外,无线装置120可接收到无线装置120未觉察到的其他协作基站112上的历书信息。
在另一实施例中,历书处理器122可挑选包含在特制历书中的基站112、124的数量。在某些情况下,基站112、124的密度很大,以致于包含紧密接近的其他基站112、124将对判定无线装置120的定位几乎毫无帮助。

下面参见图5,其中显示三边测量小区系统500的实施例的图式。在本实施例中,无线装置120能够与在地理位置上分离的三个或更多个协作基站112-1、112-2和112-3通信。通过分析由或从多个协作基站112收集的测距信息,可确定无线装置120的大体定位。来自一个协作基站112的到达时间(TOA)读数将所述大体定位缩小到基站112周围的环形区域。产生到达时间差(TDOA)测距读数的两个协作基站112将所述定位缩小为双曲线。三个或更多个基站可更进一步判定所述大体定位。在本实施例中,在三边测量过程中使用到达时间及/或到达时间差测量值。
无论所述区域变得多小,都需确定该区域周围的缓冲区,以补偿在确定和处理无线装置120距基站112、124的距离时存在的误差。历书处理器122收集有可能处于无线装置120所支持的每种通信模式的通信范围内的基站112、124的信息。
参见图6,其显示混合三边测量系统600的实施例的图式。本实施例显示对于不同类型的通信模式的三边测量。无线装置120从卫星定位信标152接收测距信息,并与两个协作基站112-1、112-2进行通信。在这三者152、112-1、112-2之间,可对所述大体定位进行三边测量,并将其转发至其中一个协作基站112以交换特制的历书。
下面参见图7,其显示角度测距系统700的实施例的图式。本实施例中的协作基站112可估测到达角度(AoA)及距所述无线装置的距离。此种功能使得能够使用单个协作基站112来确定大体定位。当协作基站112仅能够确定AoA而不能确定距离时,两个协作基站112-1、112-2可确定大体定位。
上述实施例不依靠非协作基站124来查找初始定位估测值,而是请求自协作基站112得到特制历书以获得改良的位置估测值。作为位置请求的一部分,某些实施例能够报告所发现的基站112、124和定位信标以及距这些基站和定位信标的任何测距估测值。历书处理器112可获取该信息,并使用装置能力数据库、运行模式数据库和基站数据库140、144来确定定位。在本实施例中,在不利用特制历书的条件下进行定位信息的初始收集。在需要历书处理器122确定更精确的定位时,可产生特制的历书,以指示可能处于无线装置120的范围内的额外基站112、124。
参见图8,其显示一种对具有本机定位功能的无线装置120的位置进行定位的过程800的实施例的流程图。在步骤804中,无线装置120可针对协作基站112或卫星或地面定位信标进行三边测量,以确定大体定位。在步骤808中,无线装置120报告所述定位估测值并请求得到特制历书。某些无线装置可存储基站112、124的基本历书,在接收到新的特制历书时,所述基本历书将被更新。
在本实施例中,在步骤812中,可在所述无线装置之外进一步改良所述定位估测值。例如,协作基站112可从到达时间或到达时间差获得某些定位信息。所述大体定置被转发至历书处理器112。在步骤816中,历书处理器112通过查找所有其位置可接近到足以用于确定无线装置120的定位的基站112、124来特制历书。这将考虑到无线装置120的与各个基站112、124兼容的所有通信模式、这些模式中的可能范围及无线装置120的可能定位。在步骤820中,将该特制的历书通过WAN 110发送给协作基站112并中继给所述无线装置。
在步骤824中,无线装置120收集更多的定位信息。该定位信息使用特制的历书且可涉及到非协作基站124及协作基站112。在本实施例中,在步骤828中,无线装置120分析所述定位信息,以改良定位估测值。在步骤832中,将所述定位估测值报告给协作基站。在确定定位的过程期间,无线装置120可具有处于特制历书中的基站112、124或者尚未处于所述历书中的那些基站的定位信息。在步骤836中,将所述定位信息连同与所述历书相关的信息(例如所观察到的基站的标识)报告给协作基站112,并将其转发给历书处理器122,以更新基站数据库144。
下面参见图9,其显示一种对具有有限定位功能的无线装置120的位置进行定位的过程900的另一实施例的流程图。某些无线装置独立确定其定位的能力有限。本实施例依靠定位确定系统100的其他部分来分析定位信息。在步骤908中,无线装置120请求得到特制的历书。在步骤912中,各协作基站112估测所述定位。
在步骤816中,该定位估测值被传递给历书处理器122以用于特制历书信息。在步骤820中,将所述特制历书发送给无线装置120。步骤824通过使用所述特制历书查找非协作基站124来收集更多的定位信息。在步骤916中,将所收集的定位信息转发给协作基站112。步骤928使用所述定位信息来改良定位估测值。所述改良可在协作基站112、历书处理器122或与协作基站112通信的任何其他定位中进行。将无线装置120所收集的任何额外信息转发给历书处理器122,以改良基站数据库144。
参见图10,其显示从非协作基站124收集定位信息的系统1000的实施例的图式。一旦无线装置120接收到特制历书,其便试图对在所述历书中所列的那些基站进行定位。图10的实施例中显示一支持两种通信模式的双模式无线装置120。一种通信模式具有第一覆盖区1012-1,而第二种通信模式具有较大的覆盖区1012-2。所述特制历书将具有第一覆盖区1012-1中使用第一种通信模式的所有基站112、124及第二覆盖区1012-2中使用第二种通信模式的所有基站112、124。
在某些实施例中,历书处理器可对无线装置120进行移动估测,以便当使用所述特制历书时,针对无线装置120的可能位置来调整覆盖区1012。在其他实施例中,倘若无线装置120在任何方向上移动,可只根据无线装置120的可能的速度或最大速度来扩展所述覆盖区。在又一些实施例中,可使用在各基站之间交递的历史来特制所述历书信息。
下面参见图11,其显示一种从基站112、124收集定位信息的过程1100的实施例的流程图。过程1100起始于步骤1104,在步骤1104中,无线装置120检查所述特制历书中有无基站112、124。这可通过随机选择所述历书中的基站112、124来完成。在某些实施例中,可使基站112、124预先随机化,因而无线装置120可按顺序取用基站112、124。
在另一实施例中,历书处理器122可选择另一方案来组织基站112、124,以快速查找一个基站。例如,可按通信模式和覆盖区1012的大小来组织所述基站。通过使用具有更大范围的通信模式,可更快速地覆盖所述历书的覆盖区。
一旦在步骤1108中找到所述历书中的一个基站112、124,便可排除所述历书中的某些基站112、124。在浏览各基站112、124以查找处于无线装置120的范围之内的那些基站后,在步骤1112中估测到每一个所述基站的距离。
即使不能进行数据通信,非协作基站124仍给出某些信息。其将对其自身进行标识,以指示无线装置120接近到足以进行通信。某些非协作基站124将指示所接收信号的信号强度。其他非协作基站124将对消息进行确认,且可使该传播时间与所传播的距离相关联。当可确定初始或预期信号强度时,来自非协作基站124的信号的信号强度可表示距离。
在某些实施例中,在步骤1116中,无线装置120收集关于不包含在所述历书中的基站112、124的信息。通常,基站112、124对其自身进行标识。如果有资源可用,则在步骤1120中,可对未在列表中的基站112、124进行测距,以便此后报告回给所述历书处理器。在其他实施例中,可分析所述基站的覆盖区或一个以上的覆盖区的重叠区,以确定无线装置120的大体定位。
参见图12,其显示从非协作基站124收集定位信息的系统1200的另一实施例的图式。所示非协作基站124是在特制的历书中标识为有可能处于通信范围内的那些非协作基站124。在本实施例中,三个非协作基站124-1、124-4、124-5以第一种通信模式在第一通信覆盖区1212-1、1212-4、1212-5内工作;两个非协作基站124-2、124-6以第二种通信模式在第二通信覆盖区1212-2、1212-6内工作;且一个非协作基站124-3以第三种通信模式在第三通信覆盖区1212-3内工作。无线装置120所处的当前位置只允许其与三个非协作基站124-2、124-3、124-4进行通信。即使不进行距离测量,这也能缩小无线装置120的定位范围,但当进行距离测量时,能够确定出非常精确的定位。

Claims (13)

1.一种对无线装置的位置进行定位的方法,其包含:
从第一基站接收包括第一唯一识别符的第一信号;
估测所述无线装置与所述第一基站之间的第一距离;
参考所述第一基站的第一定位,其中所述第一定位是在先前确定;
从第二基站接收包括第二唯一识别符的第二信号;
估测所述无线装置与所述第二基站之间的第二距离;
参考所述第二基站的第二定位,其中所述第二定位是在先前确定;。
从第三基站接收包括第三唯一识别符的第三信号;
估测所述无线装置与所述第三基站之间的第三距离;
参考所述第三基站的第三定位,其中所述第三定位是在先前确定;
使用所述第一、第二和第三距离及所述第一、第二和第三定位来确定所述无线装置的大体定位;
报告定位估测值并请求得到特制历书;
至少部分基于可能足够近以在确定所述无线装置的定位中使用的基站,接收基站的一特制历书,所述基站包括至少一个非协作基站,其不可供所述无线装置用于与远程位置进行通信,所述特制历书针对所述无线装置的大体定位加以定制;
使用所述特制历书查找非协作基站来收集更多的定位信息;
分析所述定位信息以改良所述定位估测值;
其中确定所述大体定位和改良所述定位估测值均在所述无线装置中进行。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述估测步骤中的每一者均包括:
判定所述无线装置是否辨别出一基站;及
根据以下中的至少一者来假定距离:基站覆盖区,响应延迟,信号强度,及信号范围。
3.如权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:从所述第一、第二和第三基站中的至少一者接收所述第一、第二和第三定位中的至少一者。
4.如权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:接收包括所述第一、第二和第三定位中的至少一者的历书。
5.如权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:接收包括基站通信模式的历书。
6.如权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括:接收包括基站类型的历书。
7.如权利要求1所述的方法,其进一步包括分配所述无线装置的定位的步骤。
8.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述无线装置执行所述估测步骤和所述确定步骤中的至少一者。
9.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述第一、第二、或第三基站中的至少一者是无线局域网。
10.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述第一、第二、或第三基站中的至少一者是蜂窝式电话基站。
11.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述无线装置支持具有不同覆盖区的至少两种不同的通信模式。
12.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述第一、第二、或第三基站中的至少一者是卫星。
13.如权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述第一、第二、或第三基站中的至少一者是信标。
