本发明涉及联合报文传送服务方法和系统，特别涉及使话音邮件、传真邮件和E-Mail更容易接收和传输，同时允许接收文件和传输文件分频的系统和方法。可用多个明显不同的方法实现报文检索，从而用户有更多的自由和选择进行报文检索。
当前，INTERNETM提供一个网络，用户通常向商业访问提供者(CAP)订购该网络，获得一个INTERNET地址以及在INTERNET上发送和接收E-Mail的能力，并且使用INTERNET提供的其他功能。利用公用交换电话网(PSTN)，用户通常使用其个人计算机和调制解调器与商业访问提供者连接，一旦连入INTERNET，就可以执行所需操作。CAP为用户提供E-Mail信箱，而用户一旦连入CAP，就能检查此电子信箱的内容。

在最佳实施方式中，话音邮件和传真邮件的电话地址是相同的，并且在收到入站呼叫时，计算机能够区分两类通信。使用任何地址均能与提供商业访问的计算机连接，该计算机在一个电子电报信箱内存储编址通信以备有关用户检索。提供商业访问的计算机允许每个用户访问和检索存储在其电子电报信箱内的通信或者存储在其电子信箱内的通信摘要。可以使用以下任何一种设备完成检索(1)与相应提供商业访问的计算机构成电话通信的电话机，或(2)与相应提供商业访问的计算机构成电话通信的计算机和调制解调器，或(3)与相应提供商业访问的计算机构成电话通信的传真机。
根据本发明的另一方面，与某些用户相对应的提供商业访问的计算机将所接收的编址到用户的E-Mail以及其他通信转换为传真格式，以使该报文能被传输到预定传真地址，即为了接收发送给用户报文所指定的地址。这样，用户就具有一个E-Mail地址，其他人员可以使用该地址提供信息，但用户已经预先决定偶尔或者通常以传真通信或其他特定通信的方式接收该信息。

参看图1，通信系统2包括众所周知的通信网络—INTERNET 4。INTERNET具有多个INTERNET商业访问提供者(CAP)8，每个CAP有一个用户主机，用户通常使用其个人计算机访问INTERNET的各种服务。常规INTERNET访问提供者为每个用户提供一个INTERNET地址和口令用于E-Mail检索。图中所示用户22使用本地公用交换电话网10访问普通INTERNETCAP以便向12所标识的E-Mail用户“gordon@toronto.unipost.com”传输一个文件。这一过程通过多伦多Unipost访问节点6，该节点包括Gordon电子信箱。Gordon或者被警告已经收到一E-Mail通信，或者不断拨入Unipost访问节点6，如线路24所示，通过Unipost访问节点6或任何全球UAN所需协议最终接收线路26所示的E-Mail、其他话音、传真或其他报文。
从传真机14、电话机16、18所示的计算机调制解调器连接或者经装置20所示的二进制文件传输(BFT)的报文也能生成到达Unipost INTERNET用户12的报文。这些设备经过本地公用交换电话网10与Unipost访问节点6通信，并且有效地访问Unipost访问节点提供的gordon@toronto.unipost.com电子信箱。注意到话音报文和传真报文均被发送到同一电话地址，正如参照图2进行的全面说明，多伦多Unipost访问节点6区分两类传输并将通信存储在相应的电子报文信箱中。另一方面，通过与多伦多Unipost访问节点6或其他全球UAN通信并检索业已接收的通信，Unipost INTERNET用户12能够访问该通信。应理解的是，若用户具有能够接收警告信号的装置，并随后与Unipost访问节点形成也能出现强迫传输。这样，Unipost访问节点不必连续尝试与用户通信，并且仅当接收到传输并且当前能够检索时，用户设备才拨入Unipost访问节点6。我们的早期专利公开了传真传输的自动检索，该自动检索能够应用于报文检索。
多伦多Unipost访问节点也能以不同方式处理为用户接收的各种通信。例如，用户可能期望Unipost访问节点将通信保留一段时间，即使已经将通信传送到了该用户。反之，其他用户可能期望一旦报文被传送，就将其抛弃。因此，能够根据检索时所做选择或根据预定的方案调解个别用户的偏好。
因此，对于从电话呼叫Unipost用户的呼叫者而言，UAN将作为一个话音邮件系统。对于从传真机呼叫Unipost用户的呼叫者而言，UAN将作为一个接收传真机。同样，用户能够使用电话、传真机或计算机从任何UAN检索其报文。电话将有助于话音报文的回放和管理，标识其他报文类型和信箱状态以及可能的E-Mail文本话音转换。传真机将有助于传真报文检索，E-Mail显示和通知其他报文类型和信箱状态。计算机将有助于检索和管理所有报文类型，包括话音、传真、E-Mail、视频和所有其他文件类型。驻留于计算机的Unipost软件将允许对所有文件类型进行方便的检索、回放、浏览、归档和综合管理。
具有直接拨入电话线(标为11)主机的Unipost访问节点6也可以拥有与用户或指定终端进行通信的拨出线。通常Unipost INTERNET用户12不必是便携式计算机，并且在适当的时候，该用户能够向固定计算机或传真机发送其报文。例如，可以实现从22到用户传真机的文件传输，其中多伦多Unipost访问节点将通信转换为传真通信并将通信传送到特定的传真机。这种类型的通信转换对发送者而言是透明的。
参看图2，可以看到多伦多Unipost访问节点6包括一硬盘50，硬盘被进一步细分从而为每个用户提供一个独立的电子报文信箱，不失一般性，用30表示。通常在电子信箱内具有传真收信信箱32、话音收信信箱34、E-Mail信箱36和传真输出缓冲区38。图2说明用户如何检索存储在其电子信箱中的各种通信。多伦多Unipost访问节点6包括已经为用户接收的各种报文的一个摘要。根据检索使用的终端类型，用户能够以话音格式、传真格式或E-Mail格式使用该摘要。使用计算机和调制解调器(用12表示)检索电子信箱内的报文遵守常规作法，然而，用计算机也能检索E-Mail、话音、传真和其他报文类型。使用Unipost 6内部的光学字符识别装置能够处理传真报文以提供文本文件，或者仅作为图形图象发送。因此，系统切实地为计算机和调制解调器12提供检索E-Mail报文以外的附加通信的装置。另外，能够向计算机发送话音报文并通过扬声器重放，或者将话音报文转换为文本通信。
图2也说明如何使用传真机25或电话机27检索信息。例如，如果用户处在传真机25并希望检索报文，他能够与多伦多Unipost访问节点6通信，键入其特定口令，命令Unipost访问节点向传真机发送传真报文，最好不形成其他通信而进行直接发送。另一方面，用户能够使用电话机27收到接收报文摘要以及任何话音报文，并随后命令多伦多Unipost访问节点6向传真机25发送E-Mail或传真报文。为用户接收的所有通信均被放入电子信箱30内的相应信箱中。因此，可以看出，多伦多Unipost访问节点6以及其他Unipost访问节点具有用多种不同方式与用户进行通信的能力，允许用户接收有关接收报文信息的能力和用多种格式向用户传输报文的能力。为了以特定方式有效发送信息或报文，用户不必具有与Unipost访问节点连接的计算机和调制解调器。
图2说明位于多伦多、纽约和东京的Unipost访问节点6。这些节点可以遍布一个国家。所有的大城市都可以具有Unipost访问节点。因此，每个国家通常有多个Unipost访问节点。
图3说明系统的其他优点，对于在外旅行并且通常距离其特定Unipost访问节点很远的用户而言，该系统特别合适。此时，表示为12的UnipostINTERNET.用户“gordon@toronto.unipost.com”位于日本，并且使用本地公用交换电话网10与东京Unipost访问节点6通信。在正确确认用户之后，东京Unipost访问节点利用INTERNET 4访问该用户电子信箱30并允许检索各种信箱的各种内容。例如，个人计算机12能够检索话音报文、传真报文、E-Mail和文件传输，或者INTERNET用户12可能使用电话机29检索话音报文，或已接收报文的话音摘要并进行回放。另外，用户可以命令将E-Mail或传真报文传输到31所示的传真机。因此，系统访问和信息检索均不限于单项技术，而是可以使用个人计算机和调制解调器、电话机或者传真机与某个Unipost访问节点连接以访问信箱并检索其内容。应理解的是，图3所示的范例已经允许用户12使用公用交换电话网10与东京Unipost访问节点6通信构成一个相对本地连接。随后，经过INTERNET或特定数据通信信道该连接被连接到多伦多Unipost访问节点6和用户的电子信箱。同样，通过INTERNET提供的数据通信信道，用户可以从信箱检索信息并把信息提供给Unipost访问节点。与单个Unipost访问节点不同，图3所示的多个访问节点，有助于使用特定的数据通信网络与访问节点互连，从而减少与特定计算机所需的长途电话通信。例如，若图3所示的UnipostINTERNET用户12仅仅是8所示的普通INTERNET访问提供者的一个用户，该用户将不得不使用本地公用交换电话网以及长途电话网访问普通INTERNET访问提供者8。随后，访问提供者将向用户回送信息。其结果造成长途通信，该长途通信不能以与INTERNET系统相同的速度或精度传输数据，同时，最终生成的系统也不如上述Unipost系统那样方便或性能价格比高。可以有一个遍布一个国家的多个Unipost访问节点的主机。
图4说明编址到日本国内一个特定地址的传真传输如何有效地使用Unipost访问节点。此时，经过公用交换电话网10从传真机60向Unipost访问节点6发送传输。传真机60可包括外接式设备以重新路由长途呼叫，或者首先与多伦多Unipost访问节点通信，随后与日本地址通信。因此，在这种情况下，用户提供与多伦多Unipost访问节点6开始通信的指令。多伦多Unipost访问节点6判明该传输将在日本接收，于是接收该传输，并随后使用INTERNET数据传输系统4将传真传输到东京Unipost访问节点6。最后，东京Unipost访问节点6使用公用交换电话网10将该UniPost传送到在源传输中标识的特定地址。借助这种连接，将传真看作数据传输并进行重定向以利用数据通信系统，随后在距离更近的地理位置接收该通信，从而更有效地使用本地公用交换电话网。借助这种连接，以高性能价格比和精确的方式，传真传输在数据通信信道中传输最长距离，随后使用公用交换电话网传输报文。同样，使用与公用交换电话网的本地连接将报文传输到发端Unipost访问节点。幸运的是，使用本地线路，其费用或者是免费的或者是便宜的，并且通常连接质量很高。因此，连接合理，并且在源传真机60和多伦多Unipost访问节点6之间传输速度相对较快。同样，在东京Unipost访问节点6和由62所标识的终端传真机之间的另一端的传输也是相当有效的。如果传输的发端路径较慢，通常也不会显著增加费用，因为只是本地呼叫。同样，如果传输的终端路径较慢，也不会特别昂贵，因为又只是本地呼叫。通过重定向传输，利用了数据传输网络的高质量，因此，这部分传输的费用也是较低的。
以上传输与经过公用交换电话网向传真机62发送相同传输不同。在那种情况下，由于各种步骤以及事实上那种系统并不是专为数据传输而设计的，所以其传输率很低，并且实际上由发端传真机、接收传真机以及它们之间的通信信道的质量三者决定。通常，由于包括非常遥远的距离，即使发端传真机和接收传真机具有较高的数据传输率，通信信道可能是限幅链路并导致很低的传输率和很高的费用。借助所述方法，能够节省大量费用，并且在通信路径的最重要部分使用数据通信网络消除了用户占线信号。
图5说明如何借助于包括INTERNET的数据传输网络，使用Unipost系统提供直接电话连接。在这种情况下，话音是数字传输的，并且在多伦多Unipost访问节点6和东京Unipost访问节点6之间保持实况通信。每个访问节点与发端电话机和接收电话机构成一个实况通信。因此，在完成国际通信或其他长途通信中，为用户提供进一步的费用优势。
该折扣长途话音报文要求每个Unipost访问节点能够接收并且把话音呼叫数字化。实际数据通信链路使用协议和路径选择逻辑，后者确保数字化话音分组保持从发送者到接收者的顺序。如同使用长途传真呼叫，呼叫发起者将拨打本地Unipost访问节点并输入其帐号以及接收者的号码。Unipost访问节点将在发端Unipost访问节点和最接近接收者的目标Unipost访问节点之间建立分组路径。随后，目标Unipost访问节点将给接收者发一个本地呼叫并且传送话音报文。
本系统还允许Unipost加密Uniposts之间的传输从而避免向其他Unipost无意泄露。例如，Unipost使用非实验性技术进行加密和解密，从而保护INTERNET或其他数据网络传输。对发送者和接收者而言，该安全性是透明的，并且对应于传统非加密传真传输提供一般安全性。附加安全性可以包括预先加密第一条或最后一条电话通信路径上的通信。例如，能够用预定方式加密用户与Unipost之间的通信，若需要，也能以预定方式加密最后路径。对于不同报文或不同报文检索，用户能够确定或选择不同安全级别。
如前所述，系统能够使用其他技术强迫传输所有通信。这通常包括一个发送到用户的信号，该信号不必是一个基于电话的信号。例如，可以使用调页程序通信，其中终端认为广播信号中包含其地址并且提供适当的警告。机器能够识别该警告以完成与Unipost访问节点的通信或者该警告只提醒实际用户个人。同样，访问节点也能使用话音通知，即Unipost访问节点拨出一个预定电话号码并播放一个话音报文，该话音报文表明已经收到一个报文。根据特定号码，可以向标准电话或话音邮件系统回放话音报文。
与呼叫传输技术结合，本发明可作为一个特定备份系统。此时，若特定号码占线或没有应答，企业可以将其作为备份，呼叫被传输到Unipost访问节点，Unipost访问节点接收该呼叫，最终将其传输到特定团体或得到检索。系统提供不同类型通信的多种接收而无需用户增加其他通信。
除INTERNET之外，可以使用其他数字数据网，这里说明INTERNET是因为它最普及并且大致具有最广泛的E-Mail用户。本发明不限于INTERNET。附图涉及不同国家的多个Uniposts，应理解的是，可以提供各种各样的Uniposts遍布较大地理区域(比如美国)。可以在洛杉矶、华盛顿、纽约、芝加哥、新奥尔良等提供Unipost访问节点。事实上，所有主要城市都可能需要Unipost访问节点。对于特定地区、国家或者国家组，也可能使用单一功能并且具有1-800或者其他免费号码。
以下提供摘要类型范例，当用户使用计算机从Unipost访问节点检索其报文时，该摘要向用户提供信息。应理解的是，由于Unipost访问节点包括综合话音传输，所以Unipost访问节点同样能够提供各种传输的口头摘要。
通过将所有报文类型合并成单一或集中保密源，Unipost用户能使用其PC作为所有报文的接收终端。

通过将所有报文传送到PC内，用户能够在其PC内的任何子目录下保存话音、传真、视频、E-Mail和其他报文类型。因此，与特定客户有关的子目录能够包含与该客户有关的话音报文、传真、视频片段、E-Mail或任何其他报文类型。
由于分布式UANs，为了检索其报文，旅行用户不必强制使用电话长途回叫其本地话音邮件系统。只用本地呼叫就能够将所有报文类型传送到其PC。而使用办公话音邮件系统或本地电话公司提供的话音邮件服务的旅行者为了检索报文，通常必须回叫其本地城市。这种方法同样适用于国内。
本发明不限于使用陆基电话线，并且可与蜂窝或者其他可接受的电话传输装置以及其他双向通信装置一起使用。
尽管在这里详细说明了本发明的各种最佳实施方式，熟练的技术人员还会认识到，在不背离本发明的实质或附属权利要求书的范围的前提下，能对这些实施方式作出各种变更。

Claims (42)

1.在两部电话机之间组成长途通信信道的方法，其中每部电话与一PSTN连接，所述方法包括：
一所述电话机用户启动并建立与INTERNET第一商业访问提供者节点的电话通信，同时还提供一个电话地址，
使用INTERNET在所述第一商业访问提供者节点和INTERNET第二商业访问提供者节点之间建立通信信道，并将所述电话地址提供给所述第二商业访问提供者节点，
所述第二商业访问提供者节点利用所述电话地址以及所述第二商业访问提供者节点的电话拨出能力，使用PSTN与该电话地址之电话机建立通信，及
使用INTERNET通信信道连接所述电话机并在所述电话机之间组成实时话音通信。
2.权利要求1所述的方法，包括：在启动与所述第一商业访问提供者节点的所述电话通信之后，所述第一商业访问提供者节点与所述用户通信以建立接通长途通信授权。

38.权利要求32所述的通信系统，其中所述计算机系统提供以用户名义接收的报文摘要，同时能以话音邮件、E-Mail或传真报文方式检索该摘要。
39.权利要求38所述的通信系统，其中所述计算机系统包括转换连接，从而能以文本文件的方式存储并检索所接收的传真传输，或者以传真报文的方式检索所接收的文本文件。
40.一种接收编址到用户的话音、E-Mail或传真报文的方法，所述报文由与数据通信网连接的计算机系统接收，并经过数据通信网接收和传输E-Mail，其中该计算机系统有多条与公用交换电话网连接的直拨电话线，经过该电话线接收并传输传真报文和话音报文，同时用户能够利用所述公用交换电话网和与所述计算机系统直接连接的所述数据通信网检索以其名义存储的报文，或者利用公用交换电话网与所述计算机系统组成直接连接以检索报文。
41.权利要求40所述的方法，其中所述计算机系统由所述数据通信网连接到至少一个距离更远的计算机，每个用户能够访问任一所述计算机，并且经过所述数据通信网进行所述计算机之间的报文交换检索以用户名义接收和存储的报文。
42.权利要求41所述的方法，其中每台所述计算机从用户接收发送到的报文以高性能价格比传输，所述接收报文被编址到特定电话地址，其中所述报文利用到达某一所述计算机(该计算机更接近于电话地址)的所述数据通信网进行路由，所述计算机利用公用交换电话网将报文传输到电话地址。
