To all whom it may concern:

Be it knownthat I, ALVAB; W. DE WITT, a citizen of the United States; and resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder- Containers, of which the following is a specification 1 i The present invention relates to a powder container and a'holder therefor, and an object of the invention is to provide a construction which may be used for distributing powdered toilet soap or'the like in small quantities from a container so mounted that the handling of the container to obtain a supply of soapis unnecessary. Another object of the invention is to provide a cheap throw-away container from which the contents may be readily discharged. Still another object of the invention is to provide a container which will be provided with means for preventing the clogging of its discl1argeopening. A further object of the inventionis to provide a holder which will properly support the, container in a position to discharge the contents, while makingit possible to connect and disconnect the container therefrom. A further object is to construct the holder so that the latter will be simplein operation and inexpensive to manufacture. r

To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts all of which will be hereinafter described,'the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates one cup-shaped member or section of the powder container with a surrounding bead 2, and having the portion beyond the bead received snugly within a cup-shaped member or section 3. The two sections both taper toward one end of the container, and this tapered end has an opening- 4, the bead 2 having a'deflected portion 5 which partially surrounds the opening 4 to provide a pocket about said opening. The section 3 is provided with a tongueli adaptedto be received within the pocket,

as shown in Fig. 5, so that a projection from the tongue 6 may enter the opening 4 to closethe latter during the shipment of the containers. When the powder is to be discharged, thetongue 6 is bent to the position shown in Fig. 2, and in this way coopcrates with the deflected portion 5 of the bead to-entircly surround the openin 4. A

order that one may ascertain the amount of powder within the container.

For supporting the container, there may be provided a holder comprising preferably an attaching-plate 7 to which is secured, by a screw 8, apost 9. To the outer end of the post 9, a supporting or abutment-plate or member 10 is secured by a screw 11. This abutment-plate may carry two overhanging retaining lingers 12, at a point near the lower edge thereof, for receiving between them the shown in dotted lines to permit the con tainer to be removed from the holder and out of engagement with the retaining devices 12. It is preferred to extend the abutment plate below the container in order to provide a drip-lip 10 which will conduct water on the plate to a point below the opening 4 of the container.

In using the invention, a container filled with soap or other powder is introduced between the retainers 12, while the retainer 13 is in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4, after which the retainer 13 is swung to the position shown in full lines, the projection 16 on the arm 14 entering the depression 17 in the abutment plate 10 and holding the retainer in its retaining position against accidental displacement. But few people will be able to ascertain the operation of this retainer and it will, theretainer. The opening 4: is surrounded by the head portion 5 and the lip or tongue 6, and is thereby protected against the entrance of water therein, as these portions 5 and 6 tend to conduct the water to a point below the opening and from which the water drops. A powder container comprising two cup-shaped members, one of which fits within the other and is provided with a discharge opening in its side wall, said side wall also,

having. a surrounding bead provided with a deflected portion partially surrounding the discharge opening.

2. In combination with a compressible powder container having a discharge opening, a support for said container holding the latter so that a wall thereof is free for pressure thereon, and having an abutment 00' operating with the opposite wall so that the container may be compressed between said abutment and the pressure applying medium.

3. In combination with a compressible powder container having a discharge opening, a support therefor comprising an abutment member, and means for removably securing the compressible powder container in cooperative relation with the abutment member.

4. In combination with a compressible powder container having a discharge opening, a support therefor comprising an attaching portion, a spacing member, an abutment member, and means for removably'securing the compressible powder container in cooperative relation with the abutment member. I c

In combination with a compressible powder container having a discharge opening, a support therefor comprising an abutment member, a pair of retainingmembers projecting from said abutment member and engaging the container, and a movable retaining member on said abutment member also engaging said powder container.

In combination with a powder container having opposite walls bulged and a tapered lower end providedwith a discharge opening, a support for the container comprising an abutment member engaging one of said bulged walls, and means for retaining said container in cooperative relation with said abutment member, said means leaving the other bulged wall free for pressure thereon.

In. combination with a compressible powder container provided with a discharge opening, a support therefor comprising an attaching portion, a post extending therefrom, an abutment member carried by said post,voverhanging retaining devices between which the powder container is received, a swinging retaining device: forcooperating with the upper part of theflpowder container.

In a combination with acompressible powder container provided with a discharge opening, a support therefor comprising. an abutment member extending below the discharge opening to direct water below said opening, and means for detachably securing the container in cooperative relation to the abutment member. 1
