DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.

Specification of Letters latent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FRANK T. LYMAN and FRANK J. KLIMM, citizens of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Drinking-Fountain, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.

This invention relates to a drinking foun tain, and an object of the invention is to provide a hood over the nozzle, which will prevent users from placing their mouths upon the nozzle, or otherwise soiling it.

Another object of the invention is to provide a stream from the nozzle which will be incapable of returning germs to the body of water in the nozzle when the supply dies away on the closing of the valve.

Another object of the invention is to provide the lower part of the fountain with an apron which will conceal all the piping but which is open at the bottom to allow the placing of the necessary piping when the fountain is set up.

Another object of the invention is to so place the nozzle from which the water issues as to prevent the persons drinking from the stream from placing their mouths on the nozzle.

Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portions throughout, but we are aware that there may be modifications thereof.

Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view of a slightly modified form of bowl for the fountain in which the nozzle is covered with a large roll.

The numeral 1 indicates the fountain back and 2 the bowl. The bowl 2 has a central opening to receive one end of the trap 3 and a skirt 1 extends downwardly from the bowl to form a compartment open at the bottom for the trap and supply piping 5. There is a regulating valve 6 under the bowl and a service valve 7 which is for the use of the persons using the fountain. The valve 7 projects through and is secured in an opening in the depending skirt 4. v

The upper end of the pipe 5 projects through a horizontal portion 8 of the back and it has a nozzle 9 thereon which nozzle is so shaped as to throw the stream of water forward in an arch. In order to protect the nozzle, a hood 10 is formed in the back thereover. The hood extends down over the nozzle far enough to prevent anyone from placing the. mouth on the same, and the stream passes therefrom at a convenient angle to drink from.

It has been ascertained that to make the most satisfactory solid stream it is necessary to horizontally elongate the nozzle as shown in Fig. 4, which elongation provides a substantially solid round stream at the top of the arch.

In Fig. 5 there is shown a modified form of fountain bowl. In this figure the bowl is shown at 15, the trap at 16, and the supply pipe at 17.

The supply pipe has a valve 18, and the nozzle 19 is placed in a recess 20 under a deep roll rim 21.

It will be clear that this spout or nozzle may be used over any bowl, sink or drinking fountain now in use, and such object is with in the scope of. the invention.

Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows, express reservation being made of permissilole modifications:

1. A drinking fountain comprising a bowl and a nozzle for throwing an inclined stream over the bowl, the nozzle having a horizontally elongated mouth.

2. In a drinking fountain, a nozzle for throwing an inclined stream, the nozzle having a horizontally elongated mouth.
