SURGEONS PROTECTIVE MASK Application filed September 23, 1929. Serial No. 394,700.
T he present invention contemplates the provision of a surgeons piotective mask, designed to completely cover the head and neck,
l and provided with adjustable attaching means so that the mask can be maintained in proper place to the comfort of the wearer, and afford the latter proper ventilation.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connec- .tion with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combi! nation and arrangement of parts as claimed. In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure l is a view showing how the mask is worn.
. Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the mask.
Figure is a front elevation.
Figure 4f is a detail sectional view.
The protective mask forming the subject matter of the present invention may be constructed from any suitable material, preferably of rubber, and it is shaped to conform to the shape of the head and face, and provided with a neck portion to completely cover the neck of the wearer. The mask is also preferably constructed from a single piece of material, the head portion 10 being of any suitable size, or the masks can be constructed 73,. of different sizes, while the face portion is a* designed to receive the nose and is also pro* vided with sight openings, each of which is preferably covered by a suitable lens 11. The nose portion 12 and the face at points adjacent the lens 1l, as well as that portion of the mask line adjacent the ears of the wearer are provided at these points with vent openings 13, so that the mask can be comfortably worn...
Embedded in the face portion is a strap 14 which extends across the forehead, and passes through suitable Vopenings 15 at opposite sides of the mask, the free ends of this sti-ap being adapted to be tied Iat the back of the head so -that the mask can be'held'in proper position when in use.
The neck portion 16 is of a length to completely cover the neck of the wearer, and is preferably gathered as illustrated, for which purpose the neck portion has secured to the inner side thereof at spaced pointsshort lengths of elastic tape or the like indicated at 17.' The neck portion also has embedded therein a flexible element 18 which proyects from the neck portion through restricted openings at the front of the mask, so that the neck portion can be drawn tight around the neck of the wearer and maintained in this position by tying the free ends of the flexible element 18 as illustrated in Figure 3. The mask is constructed so that it can be quickly slipped over the head and face for use, or removed from the head when not 4in use, and held in its given position by the straps 14 and 18 respectively, `which of course can be used to adjust the mask to the head of the wearer to his comfort.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein illustrated and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
lVliat l claim is A surgeons protective mask formed from a single piece of material designed to comlpletely cover the head and neck of the Wear er, said mask being formed to provide a nose receiving portion, and also provided with -sight openings, lenses arranged in said sight openings, a flexible element carried by the head portion and adapted to be tied at the back of the mask for holding the latter in position for use, a flexible element embedded in the neck portion and having its free ends projecting therefrom for drawing the neck portion tight around the neck of the user, and said mask having a plurality of vent openings at the front and sides thereof.
ln testimony whereof l affix my signature.
