Description

May 24, 1949. E. F. QENGLEMAN v TOWEL cLn Filed July 3, 1946 INVENTOR. fl/VE/Q E E VGL EMF/Y fir? Y 1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to a clip especially designed for clamping and securing towels, wash cloths and the like to towel rails and bars, and the principal object of my invention is, to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive clip which may be easily and quickly applied to or removed from a towel bar or rail, and which clip is constructed so as to receive and hold a readily removable marker, such as a small name bearing card or panel, thus enabling individuals using the same bath tub and wash basin to readily mark and identify their personal towels and wash cloths, thus eliminating the undesirable and unsanitary results arising from the indiscriminate use Of towels, wash cloths and the like.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved towel clip.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional cross section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a plan view partly in section and taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, it designates the main body Of the clip, which is preferably formed of resilient plastics, or the like, substantially cylindrical in form with an elongated longitudinally disposed opening ii, that is circular in cross section.
Depending from the wall of body ill to one side of opening I l, is a flange or plate l2 that is arcuate in cross section with its convex face disposed to the side of the slot is into opening H and the lower portion of the opposite side of the wall of body in is extended outward opposite the opening Hi to form a curved lip i l.
Projecting upwardly from the top of body ill adjacent its ends are short integral posts 15, and formed in the inner portions thereof are vertically disposed slots iii, the lower ends of which communicate with the ends of a longitudinal slot ll formed in the top of body in.
l'l'ED STATES PAT NT TOWEL CLIP Elmer F. Engleman, Burbank, Calif.
Application July 3, 19%, Serial No. 681,387
Small studs I8 project from the bodies of the posts it into the upper portions of slot it.
The name bearing card holder comprises a sheet ill, of thin, transparent material such as cellophane or plastics, same being folded double with the fold at the top and formed in the ends are notches 29, that receive the studs it when said holder is applied to the clip.
A card 2! applied bearing the name of the user of the clip is inserted between the walls of the holder and the latter is now positioned between the posts i5 with the ends of said holder positioned in the slots 16, with studs 2B and the lower edge of said holder occupying slot H.
The clip being formed of resilient material, may be readily flexed to spread the upper ends of posts l5 a sufficient distance apart to permit the card bearing holder ill to be easily and quickly applied to or removed from said posts.
In applying the clip to a towel bar or the like, the flange or depending wall 12 serves as a guide and bearing and after flange has been placed against the towel bar, the clip is pressed downward and against said bar until the latter passes between said flange and the lip it, both of which parts flex away from each other, thus enabling the bar to enter opening H.
Before applying the clip, the towel or wash cloth used by the person whose name appears on the card 2! is hung over the towel bar or rail and thus when the clip is positioned for use, it firmly clamps said towel or wash cloth to said bar.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a towel clip that is simple in structure, inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.
It will be understood that my improved clip may be varied in minor details of size, form and construction without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
As a new article of manufacture, a one-piece identification card holding towel clip comprising an inverted U-shaped resilient member, the lower portions of the leg of which member are curved toward each other, with one leg longer than the other to facilitate application of the clip to provide a bearing and a supporting rail,
posts projecting upwardly from the top of said member adjacent its ends, there being a card receiving groove formed in the top of said member between said posts, there being vertical card receiving grooves formed in said posts and communicating with the ends of the groove in said member and card engaging and retaining studs in the bottoms of the grooves in said posts near their upper ends.
