Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1908.
Application filed November 1, 1907. Serial No. 400,157.
The object of the invention is to provide-a device of the class described, by means of which toilet preparations can be effectively applied to the skin of the body, which has means for intermittently ejecting the prepa-' ration, and which is controlled in a simple manner by the hand of the user.
The invention'consists in the construction and combination ofparts, to be more particularly described hereinafter and particplarly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the acompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the invention showing in dotted outline the sides of I the body compressed; Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a hollow body or bulb,
suitably fashioned from rubber orother flexible material and adapted to be manually compressed from its normal condition. A recessed head 2, of any suitable material, such as metal, hard rubber, or the like, is mounted at the up er end of the body 1, and is supported by tl ie latter through the arrangement of the upper rim 3 of the body, in
an annular groove 4 of the head. Held within the head 2 and extending beyond the inwardly disposed rim 5 thereof is a suitable porous massaging material 5'*, such as sponge rubber, or the like. A cross support 6 is secured Within the head between the sides thereof and serves to hold the massa ing material in position above the base 7 of t e head. The latter has an opening 8 therethrough in which is mounted an outlet valve 9 consisting of a valve disk 10 and a uide stem 11. It should be understood that a though I em- I ploy this preferred form, any suitable outlet valve may be used. A manually operable catch 12 pivoted upon the base 7 and having one end extending through an opening 13 in the wall of the head, serves to lock the outlet valve in an inoperative position.
At the lower end of the body 1 is a recessed I base 14,. of any suitable material, such as metal, hard rubber, or the like, and secured in position by the arrangement of the lower rim 15 of the body in an annular groove 16 of the base. Mounted upon the inner face of the base 17 of the base member 14 and seated in an openin 18, is an inlet valve 19, consisting of a valve disk 20 and a guide stem 21. It should be understood that I do not limit myself to this particular form of valve, as any suitable ty e of inlet valve may be employed.
Arranged within the body 1 and carried by the inner face of the base 17, is a preferably cylindrical support 22; a stop 23 is mounted within this su port and serves to limit the movement of the inlet valve 19.
In operating the device, the catch 12 is released .from the valve 9, and the bulb which has been filled with the toilet preparation, is compressed. and thereby the preparation is expelled, together with a quantity of the air in the bulb through the outlet valve and massaging material, by means of which it may be a plied to the person. The vacuum within tl ie body is relieved by fresh air being taken in throu h the inlet valve at the base of the devise W en the bulb is again allowed to exp Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a massaging device, a container, an inlet and an outlet valve at se arated points of said container, one of said valves being closed when the other of said valves is open, and means adjacent to said outlet valve for applying a toilet preparation.
2. .In a massa mg device, a compressible container, aninIet and an outlet valve at separated points of said container, one of said va ves being closed when the other of said valves is open, means for limiting the movement of said valves, and further means for lockingsaid outlet valve in a closed position. 3. In a massaging device, a hollow elastic receptacle, a head and base mounted at o posite ends of said receptacle, means at sald ead for permitting the contents to escape from said receptacle when the latter is compressed, and further means on said base permitting air to enter the rece tacle.
4. In a device of the class escribed, a compressible container having an outlet head, porous material carried by said head and adapted for applying a toilet reparation, and an outlet valve permitting t e escape of the preparation from the container to said porous material.
5. In a device of the class described, a compressible container having an outlet head, porous material carried by said head and ada ted for applyin toilet preparations, an out et valve mounted in said head, and an inlet valve to permit of the filling of the receptacle with air.
6. In a device ofthe class described, an
elastic container having a recessed head and a recessed base, and valvular means in said head and said base for governin the action of said container in e ecting t e material therefrom.
7. In a device of the class described, a compressible container having a recessed head by "said head and adaptedfor applying a toilet reparation, an outlet valve mounted in sai head, a cross su port for limit the movement of said out et valve, a 100 g mechanism for securing said outlet valve in a closed positi0n,',and valvular means at said base for governing the entrance of air into said receptacle.
8'. Ina massaging device, a container for toilet preparations, said container being op- .erable to force material out of the same, means for controlling the passage of the ma-.
terial out of said container, and means for re ulating the entrance of air into said c0n-. tamer, said means being automatically oper-v ated when said container is operated.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence oftwo subscribing witnesses.
