Queen’s Day also known as Koninginnedag is a national holiday in the Netherlands on 30th of April to celebrate the birthday of Queen Beatrix. That day is actually the birthday of her mother, Queen Juliana, because Queen Beatrix original birthday was on the 31st of January which is a winter season. Due to this reason Queen Beatrix celebrates her birthday on that day.

In most cities like Amsterdam, Arnhem, The Hague and Utrecht, the celebration usually starts on the evening of April 29. Since most Dutch people love to party, this event is celebrated every year with special parties on the street, concerts, public music and theater performances, parades, fireworks, dancing, street markets and other special events and fun in honor of the royal family. Millions of people are on the street joining the fun and enjoying every special event. Almost all of the clubs organize special celebrations and the best things are totally free for most people!

The royal family visits some local historic places each year wherein they are entertained with different performances prepared by people for them. Most people attend and come to see the royal family. The members of the royal family also join in the different games to enjoy with the people around.

All schools and companies in Netherland are close and most people have a day off on this day. Some people in most cities usually put up their own stalls to sell any products which are related to Queen’s Day. Anyone, even without license can even sell goods and products only on this day.

One thing that you might notice during the Queen’s Day is most people are dressed in different orange clothing, headgear and orange unique accessories. This orange theme is made with respect to the royal family or the House of Orange. Most of the decorations, banners, posters around the city are in color orange.
