Original Design Speakers.

I have have always disliked these speakers.

Why? Because the plastic was so thin they resonated al over the place, so looks only.

With speaker design the shape of the speaker has a purpose also the material and sturdiness etc. So for me it it’s form meets function.

Meitner ma1 v2 dac,  Sovereign preamp and power amp,

DIY speakers, scan speak illuminator.

Raal Requisite VM-1a -> SR-1a with Accurate Sound convolution.

Under development:

NUC7i7dnbe, Euphony Stylus, Qobuz.

Modded Buffalo-fiber-EtherRegen, DC3- Isoregen, Lush^2

Spheres are actually a good form, shape, for a speaker. On the outside for defraction and on the inside for standing waves, resonances. But only if the cabinet wall thickness is sufficient.

First pic:

In case of form meets function, I like the first one. Nice point source MTM configuration. Narrow at the tweeter, wider at the mids. Never the same distance from the middle of the driver to the edge of the cabinet. Mmmm not sure of the time alignment of the woofer.

Second pic:

Nice point source coaxial driver raindrop shape cabinet.

Third pic:

Probably crap, driver time alignment, un sturdy hinges, thin plastic, distance from tweeter to mid to big. Spheres are good.

Nice, although I don’t speak French.
You see than with one of the older models they lowered the tweeter into the sphere mid cabinet to schorten the difference. It depends on the wavelength, from mid to woofer is not so problematic.

by the way, the Elipson brand is now owned by AV Industry, a group that includes as well the he biggest french AV-Retailer (SonVideo.com).

They just established an heritage model of an old classic:, the legacy 3230 (https://www.son-video.com/article/enceintes-enceintes-enceintes-colonne/elipson/legacy-3230-noyer)
for around 7500 Euros. The 2 times I listened to them, I was stunned by their directness, bass and timing.

What about the one that looks like the Martian in George Pal’s original “War of the Worlds” from the early ‘50’s (btw, the ONLY film of H.G. Wells’ classic science fiction story, as far as I’m concerned.). Wish I could remember the name of that speaker.

I agree. I also think they look very cool but I'm not sure if the (nicely designed) base is sufficiently stiff.

Four way coaxial driver! I've never had a chance to hear high end Cabasse speakers but there is no doubt this is not 'design' audio gear but a serious one. BTW L'Ocean speakers (80k) from the photo have a bigger brother (also 4-way design with 55cm woofer!) La Sphère (Stereophile review link) (€180k)

I agree.

In general I like spheres, I also think that that such cabinets may have quite good acoustic properties.

Only a little worse... (I think B&W should sue Elipson)  :)

Guess who came up with the idea?

By the way:

de27l5u.gif

It is about diffraction (reflected sound characteristics) not about given cabinet shape inner resonances/standing waves - right.?

Do you have a bit elevated anxiety level.? ;)

Ok, I admit - these don't look particularly friendly x-D:

Gradient

IMO they look like they've been designed by a not particularly brilliant 7y.o. or the one with ADHD, not remembering which module shape he used a moment earlier... 9_9
