Fiat Lux has its UK Premiere
Fiat Lux ("Let there be Light") a symphonic/choral work by Sir James MacMillan and Dana Gioia had its UK premiere with the BBC Symphony at the Barbican on March 15. The concert is available free on BBC Sounds until April 14. Listen here.
Fiat Lux appears after the intermission at 1:23. The concert also includes works by Arvo Part, Benjamin Britten, and Einojuhani Rautavaara. Sir James MacMillan conducts the BBC Symphony and Chorus.

The Poet and the Painters
On April 26, 2024, from 5:30-7:00, the Roswell Visual Arts Center, in Roswell, Georgia, will present “The Poet and the Painters,” an exhibition of 18 paintings created by Vincent Rinehart and Karl Kroeppler in response to the poems of Dana Gioia. The show will also include four sculptures by Barbara Rinehart also inspired by the poems. “The Poet and the Painters” will be a multi-media show in which the paintings will each have a QR code that links visitors to both the text of the poem and a recording of the author reading it aloud. The exhibition will run from April 26 to May 23.
