Object

Smooth white clad house walls, cubic shapes and large glass surfaces that bring a lot of light inside define the Villa Richard Meier. The ground floor houses the spa and vinotheque. The upper floor combines the dining room, kitchen and the living room, which continues outdoors on the floating pool terrace. Another floor is inserted, which is mainly occupied by the bedrooms. The furniture and interior fittings also follow the minimalist concept in terms of colour.

Architecture

The three-storey Richard Meier villa is embedded in the hillside. The building is typical of its well-known architect with an office in New Jersey: very clear geometric-cubic forms, white-clad exterior walls and lots of glass for light-flooded interiors. The base floor of the Richard Meier villa offers space for spa, bathrooms and vinotheque, the upper floor contains dining and living rooms and kitchen in a wide, light space. And here in front is the terrace with a pool whose blue water visually merges with that of Lake Garda. The view extends to the eastern shore and far to the south. His designs are not influenced by the so-called Bauhaus style, says the architect, who prefers to see himself in the tradition of Le Corbusier’s residential architecture. His villa, he says, was designed with the intention of capturing the magnificent light of Lake Garda in all its dramatic shades, carefully framing the view of the lake and the extraordinary landscape for each room in the villa: “That’s what interests us: the light as building material and the view as inspiration.”
