Iceland Pride Tour

Iceland Uncovered is born out of our love for Iceland´s untouched and raw nature. Our emphasis is always on the experience and making sure you leave Iceland loving it as much as we do. The Pride Tour is always our favourite as we get to keep it in the queer family. This year we kept the focus on the adventure with thrilling activities and hikes. 

The tour starts off in Reykjavik and then we head out to explore some of Iceland’s most impressive sites before coming back to Reykjavik for the pride celebration.

Day 1 - Arrival and Reykjavik

With people arriving at different times this will be an easy free day in Reykjavik before we meet up for a welcome dinner and drinks. There you will meet all the other people on the tour as well as your guide  Runar Rafn before heading out to explore Iceland the next day.

For those of you that arrive early individual activities can be arranged during the day at an extra cost.

Day 2 - ATV & The Golden Circle

We will start the day by heading out for an hour-long ATV tour that takes us along lakes and on top of a mountain overlooking Reykjavik. From there we will head to the Golden Circle including Iceland’s most important historic site Thingvellir, erupting geysers and Iceland’s 2nd most powerful waterfall Gullfoss.

Day 3 - Fjallabak Nature Reserve

We will head into the highlands to Landmannalaugar, a world famous site known for its colourful mountains. It is said that you are not a photographer unless you have gone to Landmannalaugar to shoot. . Here we will hike around taking in the breath-taking scenery before relaxing in a geothermal river.

Hike: 6.5 km, elevation gain 300m.

Day 4 - Vatnajokull National Park

This day is all about ice as we start exploring the Vatnajökull National park. The day includes a zodiac tour of the glacier lagoon as well as a visit to the diamond beach drawing its name from the beached Icebergs there. After lunch we will head out for a 2-3 hour hike to the impressive Mulagljufur Canyon. 

Hike: 6km long and 400m elevation gain.

Day 5 - South coast & Snowmobiling

We will spend the day touring between the many impressive sites the south coastline has to offer. From sea cliffs, to black volcanic beaches, waterfalls and glaciers this day has it all. After a morning of sightseeing we will arrive at Myrdalsjokulll glacier for a snowmobiling tour up onto the Icecap.

Day 6 - Thorsmork Glacier Valley

A Scenic drive to Thorsmork or the valley of Thor. A group of glacier valleys surrounded by 3 glaciers. This is one of the most popular sites in Iceland for locals for hiking and it is your guide’s favourite place. Once there we will head out for a full day of Hiking and exploring. 

Hike: 12.5 km elevation gain 900m

Day 7 - Lava Tunnel & Sky Lagoon

From the hotel we will head to the meeting place for a tour that will take you into the impressive lava tunnel that is Raufarholshellir. This is truly a unique experience exploring this 4200 feet long 5200 year old cave. From there we will head to the Sky Lagoon for a relaxing afternoon. There you will get to enjoy drinks at the infinity pool overlooking the ocean and go through their 7 step wellness ritual before checking into your hotel in Reykjavik for the weekend.

Day 8 Reykjavik Pride

All of Iceland turns up for pride, Iceland is one of the most accepting countries in the world and extremely progressive. Here you will meet with your guide Runar for a fun day spent at the pride parade before he invites you to a his place for a pre party for the main event that night. This day is all about celebrating an amazing trip with the friends you have made along the way.

Day 9 Departure Day

With people leaving at different times, an airport transfer will be arranged from the hotel to the airport to suit everyone’s needs. Optional activities can be arranged for those that haven’t had their fill and are leaving later.

Meals

Breakfast will be included at all accommodations and your guide will give options on touring days for lunch, on days where there is no option to stop for lunch it will be provided. Your guide will be on hand before and during the trip to set up and organise dinners for the ones that are not included in the trip plan.

Categories of accommodation offered in this package: Standard rooms in good quality and comfortable 3.5-4 star hotels in combination with well-appointed country hotels.

Hiking Level

It is very important in a group trip that everyone is comfortable with the hiking involved. The highest rating for the hikes we do will be Moderately Strenuous with exposure to height. 

Moderately Strenuous hikes will generally be challenging for an unconditioned person. The terrain will involve a steady and often steep incline. Generally 5 to 8 miles.
