SRembrandt van Rijn owned a house nearby from 1639 to 1656. There were early markets & the Butter Market was here. In the early twentieth century, this square became a center of nightlife drawing artists, young people & laborers. Hotels, cafés & entertainment venues opened around the square. Rembrandt's statue is in the middle of the square.

Yo this place was so cool. My second time in Amsterdam was just as fun as the first. I first thought these were chess pieces. After getting closer i saw they were Rembrandt statues. This place is also in the party district of town.

you have to appreciate Rembrandt's work in order to enjoy this museum. Get the audio guide tour, it helps to understand the tour.
The tour is mainly kept to the original structure, which I felt was a great touch. I also learned he sketched!
It was enjoyable for all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mark O.Dublin, Republic of Ireland5186257Dec 17, 2016
A very interesting museum which provides the visitor with great insights into the life Rembrandt lived, with a very well laid out tour process throughout the house assisted by a very good audio guide, would highly recommend it.

We headed off to the Rembrandt House around 3:00 PM. The Rembrandt House Museum was very interesting. I must have forgotten that Rembrandt also etched and the etched drawings were beautiful and impressive. The details were incredible. The house is enormous filled with many of his paintings. No wonder he filed for bankruptcy. The staircase in the house is narrow and steep. It can get a little crowded even on Sunday afternoon. A must do in Amsterdam.
