Itzehoe is the county seat of the Steinburg district and is one of the oldest cities in Schleswig-Holstein. Echeho Castle, built around 1000 in the Sturgeon Loop, developed into a trading town, which was first mentioned in writing as “Ekeho” in the 12th century. Today Itzehoe has about 32,000 inhabitants, with a city area of about 28 km², and is characterized by its location on the Stör exactly between the green marshes and the Geest.
In the north of Itzehoe, the innovative heart of Schleswig-Holstein beats with ISIT – the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology and the Innovation Space. As a cycling-friendly city, Itzehoe is an ideal starting point for cycling tours along the Stör or on the long-distance cycle paths Ochsenweg and Mönchsweg. One of the longest pedestrian zones on the west coast, medium-sized specialist retailers as well as independent craftsmen, some with a hundred-year tradition, characterize the image of Itzehoe. Restaurants, cafes and inns offer opportunities for a leisurely stop. Attractive events, historical sights and countless excursion opportunitiesprovide entertaining entertainment throughout the year.
Also in our tourist information there is a lot of information, brochures, souvenirs, gift articles and the Itzehoer voucher. We will be happy to advise you!
