Diane Arbus (1923-1971) was an American photographer known for her powerful and often unsettling portraits of people on the fringes of society. Born in New York City, Arbus developed a unique and highly influential style that challenged conventional notions of beauty, identity, and normality.
Arbus's work often focused on subjects who were considered marginal or outside the mainstream, including circus performers, transgender individuals, and people with disabilities. Her approach was deeply empathetic, and she sought to capture her subjects with honesty and dignity. Her photographs are characterized by their stark black-and-white composition and their ability to reveal the humanity and complexity of her subjects.
