Bring the house down
This weekend, don’t let your hair down to retro and hip-hop. Give house music a chance. House is not a new phenomenon. The genre took root in the ‘80s and became very popular in the early ‘90s. Now, it has spread its infectious ‘four to the floor’ beat to clubs all over the world. It uses elements of soul, funk and disco. Tonight Hype hosts DJ Keith Bowden from Atlanta. He is an electronic dance music enthusiast and hosts his own podcast called Aural Pleasures. Also churning out house tonight is DJ Mars at Canvas. He is the younger brother of none other than Ryan Beck, one of the first few DJs to play the genre in the city. The thin red line Here is an epic drama that you can make your weekend large with. Andha Yug, a play written in verse shortly after independence by the late Dharamvir Bharati, juxtaposes the Mahabharata with India’s partition. The anti-war play has been adapted by various theatre groups across the country. It was first aired at Allahabad All India Radio and subsequently went into stage productions in the ‘60s. The version you can catch is produced by Ranga Theatre. It has been rechristened Andha Yug — A Fusion. It uses Mahabharata’s mythical characters to depict the frivolity of violence and hatred. It shows the defeated Kauravas and the victorious Pandavas on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, both doused in loss and regret. Even Krishna, the mediator between the two warring armies fails to bring peace, as Ashwatthama employs his last weapon to destroy the world. Where: Prithvi Theatre, Janik Kutir, Juhu When: Sunday, August 21 6.00 pm and 9.00 pm Entry: Rs 200 Call: 26149546 | |
