13 Feb Klas Fahlén – A pen and paper is enough

This illustrator unites all of my favourite features: simple forms, stylish retro appearance, a great use of colors – and he is Scandinavian… So, welcome to my collection, Klas Fahlén!

With 55 years the Stockholm based illustrator is a well-established person in his business with clients from Sweden, like Volvo, ICA, Ikea as well as worldwide clients like for example Amica, LA Magazine, Veuve Cliquot, Anson’s, Samsung and many more.

Although he is representet by many illustration agencies in the web, there is not much to find about his biography – except that he won the Cannes Design Lion in 2011 for his elegant illustrations for teh Scandinavian grocery company ICA. So, I just quote a text from his main agency Agentenbauer.com:

// As a little boy, illustrator Klas Fahlén spent hours drawing Batman and playing football; but when he realised you had to be 6 foot 2 inches tall with the stamina of a horse to be a footballer, it became just drawing and painting. And with just a little nagging from his mother he turned it into his full-time profession. –-Pen and paper, plus a little concentration, is all he needs to realise his ideas, inspiration coming from anything from Picasso to contemporary Swedish illustrator Stina Wirsén. Klas is known for his simple, elegant line drawings - colourful, sharp and peppered with subtle humour. He was born in Sala in 1962, and is now based in Stockholm. //
