City Winery’s new Pier 57 flagship is finally here

City Winery — the popular national chain that got its start in New York City — is debuting its massive Pier 57 space, in Chelsea, on October 15. At 32,000 square feet, it’s the largest wine bar in the city, and also one of NYC’s largest restaurants. Due to the current restrictions on indoor dining, the massive space will have 200 socially distanced seats inside (spread out between multiple indoor spaces), and an additional 70 seats outside overlooking the Hudson River. At full capacity, the flagship will be able to seat 990 people.

Aside from its expansive wine list, which features 1,200 bottles from more than 20 countries, the food menu — created by chef Robert Hamburg — includes items like a whipped feta dip, deconstructed ravioli, and an array of flatbreads. When music concerts return, City Winery will be able to host performances in a 350-seat concert hall and a separate 150-seat loft space, as well.

After closing its decade-old space in Soho last August, City Winery was set to debut its Pier 57 flagship earlier this year, but the pandemic delayed those plans until the fall. Entrepreneur Michael Dorf, who also opened the the live music venue the Knitting Factory, debuted City Winery in 2008, and the wine bar and music venue has since expanded to half a dozen cities including Boston, Philadelphia, and Atlanta.
