Kylie Minogue has a new muse.

In this week's issue of PEOPLE, the pop icon opens up about her relationship with boyfriend Paul Solomons.

"In a nutshell, he's a great guy. He's so caring and supportive," Minogue, 52, says of Solomons, the creative director of British GQ. "He has a wicked sense of humor, he has his own life and his own career going on. So we meet in the middle somewhere. And yeah, it's just . . . it's good — and there's a lot to be said for that."

The Australian singer-songwriter met Solomons, 46, in 2018, the same year she released her country-tinged LP Golden. When she was touring for that record, Minogue got inspired to revisit her disco roots. The Grammy winner started work on her 15th album, tellingly titled DISCO, before the coronavirus crisis. But the effervescent album was primarily recorded at Minogue's in London during quarantine — and Solomons watched it come together.

"This is the first time have lived through the making of an album. And it kind of made me try to see it from a different perspective," Minogue says. "When it comes to work, I go in deep and I'm obsessive. He's been very supportive through that."

Minogue's new album, DISCO, is out now.
