The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39 Texas is Available Now

Better late than never, the 2022 University of Texas Nike sneaker has been released to the public.

Historically, the annual University of Texas Nike sneaker has always been released prior to the first football game of the season. Fans eagerly anticipate the moment when they can finally purchase the shoes and wear them for Game 1; a ritual that many have observed for the better part of the last decade. But while each season’s Longhorn kicks tend to drop well before the beginning of the season, this year the burnt orange faithful unfortunately had to wait a bit longer to grab their go-to gameday kicks for 2022. Despite the delay, the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39 Texas is now available for purchase, and it looks to be well worth the wait for die-hard UT fans.

Colorway Description

In contrast to many of the recent UT Pegasus, these kicks feature a classic burnt orange upper. This marks the first time since 2019s Pegasus 36 “Texas” that a general release Longhorn sneaker has predominantly sported the Longhorns’ signature color on the upper. This generous helping of burnt orange is paired with a white midsole, for a clean look that is reminiscent of the various non-branded “Team Bank” Pegasus colorways that are worn by UT coaches, support staff, and athletes each year. The colorway is rounded out with light pewter grey and white accents throughout, giving the shoe a good amount of contrast.

In terms of UT branding, the Longhorn logo can be found on the lateral side of the sneaker. The words “Texas Longhorns” are inscribed on the tongue of the right shoe. Finally, the insoles also feature the steer head logo set against a repeating circle pattern, resulting in a shoe that is tastefully branded without being too overwhelming.

Author Opinion

After finally getting these in hand, I can safely say that these Pegasus 39s are one of the best “Week Zero” style releases that Nike has produced. The burnt orange on this pair really pops, and the white and grey accents give the shoe a more unique look when compared to some of the general release colorways for the 39s. While I wish they had a bit more custom UT-themed elements, what they have is sufficient for establishing them as a “Texas” shoe. Overall, these UT Pegasus 39s pair a great model with a simple yet classic colorway, and I predict that they will be well received by Longhorn fans everywhere.

The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39 Texas is available now for $130-$140 depending on the retailer. While in some instances this is a $10 change from last year’s pair, the jump can likely be attributed to the overall price increase that Nike gave the Pegasus line this year (jumping from $120 to $130).

What are your thoughts on the latest pair of Texas Pegasus? Are you planning on picking up a pair, or has the delayed release data really soured your excitement for them?
