Presenter, writer, programme-maker
Ernest van der Kwast was born in Mumbai, India. Mama Tandoori, his breakthrough novel, enjoyed huge success in the Netherlands and Italy. He works in his hometown Rotterdam as a programme-maker and presenter.
From 2016 to 2017, Van der Kwast was VU Amsterdam's Vrije Schrijver ('Free Writer'). In this capacity he interviewed refugee students about their motivations, plans and dreams for their lives in the Netherlands. This resulted in November 2017 in the publication of Jouw toekomst is mijn toekomst (your future is my future) in which he chronicled the stories of four refugees. A book with courageous stories that make us look differently at people who have made the crossing to Europe.
