Blacklick man sentenced to life in prison for 2021 Columbus shootings

A jury determined that Abdu shot and killed 21-year-old Nazeer Winton outside of Winton’s apartment in the 3000 block of Rabbit Hill Lane on Halloween of 2021.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Blacklick man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting one man and injuring another in 2021, according to Franklin County Prosecutor Gary Tyack.

Othman Abdu, 20, was found guilty of two counts of murder, aggravated murder and felonious assault in two separate shootings that took place on Oct. 31, 2021.

Abdu will be eligible for parole after 39 years.

A jury determined that Abdu shot and killed 21-year-old Nazeer Winton outside of Winton’s apartment in the 3000 block of Rabbit Hill Lane. Earlier that same day, Abdu shot another victim on Wedgewood Drive in west Columbus.

 The victim of the Wedgewood shooting survived their injuries.
