I just picked this up on black friday. I've put it on a smallrig cage for a BMPCC 6K Pro. You will need to use underside rails (like for a v-mount setup) if you want to mount this on the right-hand side of that camera. The included rail setup won't reach the lens. I'm sure it works fine for the left-hand side, but I already have a handle mounted there. In any case, it works great. The action is very smooth, the wood-grain is nice and matches my wood-grain smallrig handles. The white marking ring does feel like cheap plastic like people have mentioned, but it's intended to be used with dry-erase markers for color-coding your focus positions, so shiny white plastic is perfect for that. If you don't like it, you can just pop it off instead for a cleaner black and wood look. The articulation of the configuration is impressive, and it all holds together well when tightened. If you're on a budget, the smallrig mini FF is usually around half the cost of this one, I just splurged to keep my wood-grain aesthetic going. Basically this is a quality product and the only downside is the price. Get it on sale if you can!

The wooden knob is a nice touch but doesn't really add anything outside of aesthetics. I had asked the question here on Amazon if the palm rest mount screw thread was 1/4in 20, the common tripod accessory mounting thread size. Both an individual and SmallRig Customer Service reported that as being correct. Unless they got a different variant of the device, I can't understand how they could both be so completely wrong in their answers. The threading appears to be metric 0.8, and looks nowhere close to the other 1/4in 20 threads on other screws in the kit. (See picture)

Otherwise, excellent unit. Would be nice if the palm rest used a more common thread so it could mounted in other places. Heck, they could probably sell it on it's own that way.

This follow focus is an excellent tool for the price point and works much better than other competitors I’ve used in this range. The ability to change the direction of the wheel on the fly is probably the best feature and, combined with the extension arm, allows me to rig it in weird positions when needed. I tend to use a broad range of lenses from different manufacturers and they don’t always have the same direction of focus ring, so this is a huge help for swapping lenses frequently.

Overall, the construction seems very sturdy and it has held up well on the several shoots I’ve been able to use it. The drag adjustment seems to keep set fairly well and the hard stops are handy, though sometimes difficult to adjust when rigged.

This is a manual follow focus for people who want just a little more than the mini follow focus 3010. most people just need the 3010. however this offers a little bit more and if you see yourself using a follow focus constantly, pulling focus manually, the differences add up.

The palm rest is such a necessary inclusion. The actual screw is not a 1/4 thread, god knows why, which means it cannot be attached to most normal baseplates or handles (at least none that I could find) however it works amazingly on the actual follow focus, when you are pulling focus on the 3010, there is nothing for you to rest your hand on so the hand you pull focus with is not weight bearing and puts a lot of pressure on the other hand. the palm rest fixes that and is essential if youre using a slight more rigged out camera.

The wheel turns much nicer, the damping that changes the friction works only slightly and has not made a difference regardless of how tight it is turned in my use. Sometimes on photo lenses I use the follow focus to pull zoom and i need a manual follow focus because no electronic follow focus i have used work as good as a manual connection especially for pulling the zoom (helps make dolly zooms a lot easier).

the wooden grip feels much nicer than the plastic of the 3010. It is not insignificant. if your hands a sweaty, the wood gives you much more confidence in your focus pulls. the wheel is also a little bigger. you have to decide for yourself if that is good for you or not.
