Extremely Rare 1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale [Updated]

The Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale is arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever made and one of the rarest too, since the Italian carmaker only built 18 road-going versions of the Tipo 33 racer. Of these, fewer than 10 are known to exist today, so you can imagine it’s quite a trophy in the world of classic car collectors.

Believe it or not, one Tipo 33 Stradale owner is willing to part ways with it, as the car is advertised on a classic car sales website from Geneva, Switzerland. The 1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale has chassis number 750330104 and took Best in Class at Pebble Beach after a 2004 restoration.

As is usually the case with these type of rides, this Tipo 33 Stradale’s history is interesting, having spent its early years in Italy until 1984, when collector Pietro Brigato sold it to Kiyoshi Takihana from Japan. By the late 1980s, the car returned to Europe and entered the collection of Count Hubertus von Donhoff. The Tipo 33 Stradale was then sold to another Japanese collector, who kept it from 1990 until 2004, when a leading American collector bought it and commissioned a comprehensive restoration.

Powered by a 2.0-liter V8 engine producing around 230hp (234PS), the Tipo 33 Stradale was a very fast car for its era, thanks in part to a curb weight of only 700 kg (1,543 lbs). Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the high-revving engine (10,000 rpm red line) propelled it from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 260 km/h (162mph).

All in all, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for wealthy classic car enthusiasts to add an Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale to their collection, since these cars almost never appear for sale. The price is not listed, but don’t be surprised if this car will fetch well over $3 million.
