Stuttgart, Weissenhofsiedlung. 1927.

The postcard shows a view of the Weissenhof Estates as they were originally exhibited in summer 1927 in Stuttgart. The dwellings show a similar visual language. They are rectangular and designed in a minimalist way, without any decorative ornament. The apartments, single-family homes and row-houses are standardized and therefore fit neatly with each other. Most of them were also painted similarly in an off-white hue. However,  they are not alike since every architect was given a lot of artistic freedom to put his idea of modernism into reality. 17 Architects from all over Europe contributed towards erecting 32 buildings for this one of a kind exhibition by the “Deutscher Werkbund”.  -Agata Strausa
