French and Saunders are one of Britain's premier comedy duos (certainly you lot think so), having made us laugh for over 30 years.

But they've also of course had huge success in solo projects, and in a lengthy interview with The Times, Dawn French has reflected on the pair's times apart.

Discussing the period when she began the process of adopting her child, Dawn spoke about how Jennifer went off to write and star in sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.

"[Ab Fab] was the first time I saw that she could do it all without me. And then she won a BAFTA, and I was like, 'What the f**king hell?'

"That's when jealousy kicked in, but it was a cocktail of emotions: pride, love, jealousy."

Dawn also explained that Jennifer and her other half, Ade Edmondson, were character witnesses for the Vicar of Dibley star and then-partner Lenny Henry: "We were always kind of sisters, looking after each other, and when the baby came along I felt very supported by her."

When asked if there is still any jealousy nowadays, Dawn said: "Only of Fatty [her nickname for Jennifer] being a granny.

"Sometimes when we're together, we just can't believe how long it's been."

The duo reunited for a divisive Carpool Karaoke sketch for this year's Comic Relief, and there's a Christmas special in the works that Dawn teases in the interview — apparently there's a The Handmaid's Tale parody in there.
