In numerous preparatory studies, such as the present Étude pour ‘Autour d’un point’, as well as in consecutively numbered and fully developed variations on one and the same theme, Kupka repeatedly deals with the same subject. Rather than striving for ever greater perfection, he endeavours creatively to “adjust” to the forces of growth, change and repetition that characterise the existence of all things.
