One of the most famous football fans in the country is champing at the bit to get back to Hillsborough this Sunday after 18 months away.

Paul 'Tango' Gregory was given an two-year ban for verbally abusing a steward in 2019. It was reduced to one year on appeal but then the pandemic hit and Paul has been unable to support his beloved Owls in a competitive game since.

The 58-year-old transport manager, who lives in Wolverhampton, said: "Getting back on the Kop and getting around the people again.

"When you've been following a club since you were 17, travelling all over all the time, it's like a major blow not being able to go.

"I've missed the people the most. Living in Wolverhampton we have people stopping round our house regularly for games, to go out for a curry."

Paul, who got the nickname Tango on an away trip to Crystal Palace when he took his shirt off and the home crowd decided he looked like the man from the 'You've been Tango'd' advert, has managed to support his second love, England at Euro 2020.

"It was fantastic," he recalled. "I've got my girlfriend Rachel who started coming with me. It was such a rollercoaster of a ride getting there.

"Beating Germany and then getting through to the final. Once we got to the penalties and they were up the end where we were and then Pickford saved and then we missed it was like urgh.

"I definitely thought it was coming home this time."

He added: "Following England is like one massive family. We're up Charlton next week, we've got a lot of friends there, Jonny Portsmouth at Portsmouth, big mates with all them. So you get a massive bond between the people from other clubs."

Paul is optimistic about the World Cup in Qatar next year though.

He said: "I know Italy won but they've got an aging team, same with the Brazilians and everyone else. We seem to be the up and coming team who's going to start setting things on fire again."
