Although the sample cost me $5 usd I would have preferred to tear up or burn that money. It smells like rotten hay when it dries. I wish I was kidding

Atabey_H

I see that quite a few people find Paradis Perdu to be the black sheep of the family, but I beg to differ! I finally picked up a full bottle after 2 months since I first accidentally encountred it during "my friend's"perfume shopping. Why I am so attracted to this scent is still a mystery to me. After years of being a perfume enthusiast, I had been still quite partial to heavy oriental scents until recently. Truthfully, never mind herbal or mossy fragrances, I only started to add full bottles of citrusy and lighter musky fragrances this summer. But then this!! This scent is a party to me. One moment, you get vetiver, another you get grapefruit, then the cedre, and and..I find it fascinating that no note seems to truly disappear. The moment you think it's finally now gone and moved onto the dry-down, you get other notes peaking out. Besides, as a lover of anything Art nouveau, I just couldn't pass it by. Although I do have to say, at least yet, I haven't quite understood this fragrance's connection to the beautiful imagery that the description of the inspiration of the perfume draws on:

1889? The Paris World Fair? Created with the vitality of Art nouveau, Paradis Perdu is an ode to the vineyards around the property. The perfumer, Amélie Bourgeois, drew her inspiration from the expanses of land, conjuring effervescence with curved lines, somewhere between gushing and encircling.

Anyways, it's a strange love for me!! P.S. To me, this is a quite different fragrance to Chergui I used to own: to me, Chergui is a much denser and more balsamic, spicy wet hay fragrance with SL's quintessential melancholia. Paradis Perdu, on the other hand, is a sheerer, lighter aromatic vetiver-cedre centred scent with a bit of old money vibe.

The one thing I really like about this scent is that the nicely blended array of citrus lasts long into the wearing. The really criminal downfall though, is very poor sillage. You need to almost touch nose to skin to smell this on yourself. I will give the perfumer points for skilled blending because in the past, I can say virtually every scent I have tried that has galbanum, I have hated. Hated! But this was pleasant throughout. The hay and vetiver are very nice. I'd say on me it doesn't really do the wood thing, in the dry down. Mossy, yes perhaps. But the top and middle notes seem to stay at the party and won't leave--not that this is a bad thing. I just can't justify a scent that is so hard to perceive--even for the wearer!

Riverwind79

Just received a 2ml sample of this and wow, yes I love it! But unfortunately, I don't think I will be getting a full bottle of it because it smells so similar to Corsica Furiosa which I already owned a full bottle. Both have very different fragrance components with only a small handful similar notes, but smells so much alike. But if I am to really say the differences (I am not that of an expert, sorry), I will say probably that Paradis Perdu is 'less heavy'. While I do love the scent of both perfumes, and if to make a choice, I will choose Paradis Perdu over Corsica Furiosa.

silkconnection2

Frapin’s fragrances are never obvious and Paradis Perdu is no exception! Amélie Bourgeois is a true genius as a perfumist, so my review is nothing about her talent and olfactory mastery. It is just about my overall persona perception. Although I like Paradia Perdu very much. (I am wearing in this very moment), and I treasure its unconventional tartness and peculiar bitterness; I cannot avoid to realize that the grapefruit absolute, which is the dominant leitmotif of this fragrance, smells always like cat pee. Don’t get me wrong: I like grapefruit and its feline, animalic and almost indolic undertones. But it is an acquired taste, a willingness to explore its metallic pitch not redolent of any sweetness. Yes, Paradis Perdu is the bold statement of a green paradise without flowers, an intellectualized version of a galbanum folly. A fragrance for the brave! Live it or leave it!

*Aromoteca*

Frapin - for me, first of all, this is high-quality cognac, before exploring the flavors of this house. Now I understand that the quality here in everything and in the perfume as well! Lost paradise is a beautiful name. They say how you call a ship ... I want to disagree, now many names do not match the content, but not this time or with this scent.
This paradise is just a thickets, jungle with tart greens. Here you will not find heavenly flowers in our understanding and representation of Paradise. This is a Jurassic park with its lush vegetation. For me, the fragrance is beautiful.

Rough grass, a little bitterness, galbanum and moss, rich sound. I feel this fragrance on myself and get unearthly and truly heavenly pleasure. It is gorgeous at any time of the year (if you like herbs, bitterness), especially of course, in spring and summer. Firmness and trail, it seems to me, moderates, will not suffocate anyone with their obsession, and this can be a plus for people who like to smell sweet in the morning with one scent, and in the evening with another. Chic. Love

This is a very spicy and sour green unisex scent suitable for mild weather, spring and cool summer days. It fells incomfortable for my nose. This creation is one of the strongest of Frapin. Long lasting with moderate sillage.

Dominant notes are a big spicy green combo of green grapefruit, galbanum, hay, basil, vetiver, a green/spicy combo with burns slightly my nose. I don't know how smells ravensara and molk broom. Anyway, it has nice performance but it's not for me.

rbalkris

A lovely and elegant modern chypre. Paradis Perdu (Lost Paradise) starts off with a citrusy blast of Bergamot, Grapefruit, Citrus, and Mandarin. The middle reveals notes of green leafy notes, galbanum, elemi, tropical fruit accords. Finally it settles into a mossy powdery base comprised of cedar, vetiver, rosewood, labdanum, oakmoss and musk leaving behind a gentle trail of tropical fruits. It is like talking a walk in a fruit laden orchard on a nice sunny yet cool day. The scent is well blended with moderate projection, sillage and longevity. Easily unisex and retains an understated refinement. Enjoy!

shushkin

This fragrance is interesting but disappointing. I think for me there is just too much going on. I can smell the same order of notes as the general consensus reveals above.
I've worked out what note has ruined it for me. My old nemesis Elemis has as usual been amplified on my skin and overwhelmed the rest of the notes.
Such a shame.

Descartes

Absolutely fabulous!sexy, seducing. The combination of fruity juicy paradise fruits, patchouli with the dryness of aromatic woods and cedar with vetyver makes it a very unique and original perfume. All through the perfume you can smell a dry aromatic Gin with more subtle aromatic botanicals like coriander, cassia, angelica and orris root. Can be wear day or night time. I can't understand the bad reviews,I absolutely love it! l.Don't be afraid, nothing weird or fruit salad as wrongly stated, worth blind buying.

PARADIS PERDU

I am considering to buy this. Amazing sour green fragrance, ugly bottle:(
Upd: Bought it on ebay and guess what? It's my signature frag for almost a year now. There is no one similar to this, boozy vetiver juice.

ehsankasiri

One of my faves of theirs that I have tried so far. Wish it lasted longer but the citrus fades. This goes on a blast of resin and citrus then dries down with the basil, vetiver and some dry woods. It's a lovely, fresh, green, citrus summer frag with some bite/depth because the vetiver and musk are there making this far more than a summer citrus fragrance.

spartan

I love Vetiver, and this I guess is Frapin's take on it even thou from the name on the bottle one would't know it. Bergamot, Basil, Vitiver, Grapefruit, Citron... It's A masterpiece....Only thing is at $200 for 100ml... I will continue to wear Guerlain's Vetiver Extreme...as it is A deeper and more complex masculine fragrance in my opinion. Paradis Perdu is A good edition for the serious Vetiver collector.. but if you are just looking for A quality fragrance...then I think you can do better with your dollars....
Also it does not last very long on my skin..I would have to reapply quite often to keep up the intense level for the peak of this fragrance...Thats A big downfall considering the cost of this juice!

cedar_lea

Very woody. The opening is cedar chips with sap and a bit of herb (basil seems to fit) There is some bergamont crispness at the start but it is more of a background note on me.

As it progresses I get a floral note and sweet sweet hay. Like the honey-ish smell of a loft of freshly baled hay, not sugary sweet. The woody notes never leave though. I am absolutely in love with this part. It lasts a good while and is delicious.

In the drydown I get a good amount of patchouli and a definite musk. This is a nice earthy scent. The sweet hay lingers too and occasionally makes itself more prominent. It is pure autumn!

The longevity is solid. It's almost hour 12 and I still get trace amounts of scent.

gatsby

Horrifying scent it s simply imposiblle to keep it on my skin. Even the $50 price for 100 ml here doesn t woth any effort, it s a black spot on Frapin creation list. A true shame that such a beautiful scent name is wasted. Pas.

i'm sampling this right now as it's one of the remaining frapin scents i have not yet sampled.

it's brutal. it's unripe and totally green. all i get is fetid vetiver and precious little else. it's totally not in the character of the house; nothing boozy or lofty about this. in fact, it's quite base and, to tell the truth, disappointing.

personally speaking, i have NO idea how anyone can like or enjoy this one. it doesn't smell nice or pleasant. i mean, uber-sweet and floral scents, whilst not my favourite, smell nice and pleasant. this, unfortunately, is none of the positive adjective mentioned previously. it's quite brutal and unripe.

ETA: this, in a way, reminds me of vetyverio (diptyque) in that it is both citrus-sweet and vevitery-bitter. diptyque handles it much better. muted vetiver that doesn't overpower...

I was going thru samples and found this. This is a very different type of scent. For people that think Chergui has hay in it you need to def sample this. It's the driest scent that I have ever smelled and one must sample this to understand the word dry in fragrances. It's accompanied by vetiver, grapefruit and galbanum giving it an overall green effect. For some odd reason I like it but not enough to buy a FB. Longevity is around 7 hours with average sillage.

amirali0072000

Green and Woody ..
I smell hay and vetiver and a bit Galbanum and grapefruit scent it this fragrance the most ..it is green sence...Not overly sweet like the others farpins...it Opens with a juicy grapefriut note along with some citruses and becomes green and hay and vetiver .The drydown is beautiful woody musky and green. Very real, juicy, sweet , grapefruit! And only grapefruit.Beautiful unisex grapefruit scent.. , very peaceful. Excellent sillage and good longevity.it lasted fair ten hours on my skin, though with a soft sillage , it's much different than a classic Frapin fragrance...
This hemispheric opening leaves its place to a green heart of different herbs and grasses...
especially with that smoky feel I get through the leaves and grass and galbanum and vetiver
The opening is great: one of the most realistic, crunchy, wet leafy/green openings I've ever tried, with fresh citrus notes,I suggest it for spring/summer.

Allen-at-home

To be fair, I feel I should update my review. From the start is a light “lumber” scent that stays awhile. Nothing unpleasant about it except for a slight (very slight) rotten grapefruit that eventually peeks out, as has already been mentioned by another reviewer. Overall, not much personality, although not offensive, either.

Allen-at-home

Tomatoes? Rotting grapefruit? Paradis Perdu reminds me of something else, not sure what. I believe it smells like one of the Atelier Colognes, possibly Pomelo Paradis? No, wait: Pomelo Paradis was like citrus candy, but this isn’t. But definitely reminds me of Atelier. Either way, not for me. Nothing special. I like Pomelo Paradis, but Paradis Perdu, not so much.

wesleyhclark

Wow - this one is weird! It opens with an incredible mustiness that reminds me of Salvador Dali Pour Homme, then transitions into a rotting grapefruit accord rather than a floral note like the Dali.

It's like a roll in the hay - and not clean hay, either.

I'll hand it to Frapin for coming up with something unusual, but I don't want to smell like this.

Fortunately it doesn't last long on me or my sample would have resulted in a long, long day.

weaselize

i get the tomato some people mention.
If i cut open a tomato and separate the slimy juice with the seeds in a plate, that,s how this smells like to me.
A metallic, green, freshcut tomato juice scent in a good way.
Later on strengthened by the cut leaves from the tomato plant.
Wears lightly and inoffensive and smells natural.
In the drydown it got a little sweeter but very very subtle. It,s not a sweet scent.
It,s the first time i smell such kind of fragrance.
Not bad

Lana148

So much going on... so many ingredients my nose is all over the place, but on the end of the day this is sweet-aromatic, green fragrance. To simplify even more, this smells, not exactly but very close, like a .... tomato leaf and grass.

Reminds me of Corsica Furiosa by Parfum d`Empire.

Hoxx

Paradis Perdu is much different than a classic Frapin fragrance. In fact, if I tried this from a blank bottle, I wouldn't have even thought about Frapin.

This scent opens with a juicy grapefriut note along with some other, less potent citruses. This hesperidic opening leaves its place to a green heart of different herbs and grasses. All of that greenness is further empowered with a prominently present galbanum. On my skin it feels like PP has a bit of incense or some other smoky stuff in the background, but I haven't spotted that note here on Fragrantica, so maybe it's just me. Later in the evolution a rooty, earthy vetiver note becomes the main one, with all those leaves lurking in the background.

In a way, this fragrance can be described as Frapin's take on vetiver. If I take that as a viable description, then this is the greenest, earthiest vetiver I've encountered until now. The note I like the most here, though, is galbanum, which managed not only to make all this more green, but also to save fragrance from being too salad-like.

Longevity of Paradis Perdu is excellent, especially considering its character - it lasted fair ten hours on my skin, though with a soft sillage - it may seem to you that you leave a mile of trail because of its sharpness, but that's really not the case. PP is perceptible, but nothing more than that.

This is a unique perfume for me, a juice that lasts without flowers or woods or spices, a wearable and versatile plant and root cocktail. I feel like this one is more aimed towards men, but that's just an opinion. Personally, I love it, especially with that smoky feel I get through the leaves and grass and galbanum and vetiver.

Terrible. Smells like Vegetal salad

Roge

Im always intrigued with the idea of trying any Frapin. I like the fact that they load you with at least 15 notes hence giving you a bang for your buck. At a quick glance, what comes to mind is Fougere Bengale(only at a quick glance). The top is fresh and spicy; heavy on the woods with enough pungency to make your nose crinkle. There's also a pinch of something perfumey that adds a somewhat soapy touch. The citrus is tight lipped but it is noticeable. Overall, this is a good one. It's as complex as it looks.

mossyoakpenn

Opens with pepper which quickly fades to grapefruit vetiver. The grapefruit blends with the vetiver and hay but only for minutes because then the grapefruit is coming on strong. Very real, juicy, sweet, grapefruit! And only grapefruit. Hours later its still going strong but all Im getting is the sweet, juicy grapefruit. I expected more.
