Supermodel Adriana Sklenarikova - then the familiar face of Wonderbra - was at the ground to see husband Christian Karembeu greet fans.
The French World Cup-winning midfielder had signed for Boro in a £2.1m deal from Real Madrid in July 2000.
He first appeared before the Riverside crowd in the 2-0 defeat to Dortmund for Robbie Mustoe's testimonial.
The glamorous couple lived in the area while Karembeu played for Boro.
And his Slovakian wife famously went on to model the designs for a potential away kit ahead of the following season.
The couple moved on after Karembeu signed for Greek side Olympiacos in 2001.
