What if you could cure your depression and zap pain simply with two AA batteries? No drugs, no side effects, just some electric current. That's the concept of a new type of therapy that is getting more attention...

The secret to beating depression and pain? Some say it may be as easy as a quick, and mostly painless, electrical shock from a handheld device that takes AA batteries.

As The Daily Mail reports, thousands of years ago, the Roman physician Scribonius Largus reported that headaches could be relieved with the sting of a live electric eel (ouch!). This was just the beginning of the study of so-called healing power of electricity.

The technology is called "microcurrent therapy" or MCT, and there are new home-use gadgets on the market promising to cure what ails you with nothing but a few batteries. (The electrical current that's delivered is so weak, most are considered entirely painless.)

While there's a long way to go before medical experts embrace the treatment and back it up with research, some say that these microcurrent gadgets have improved their health in major ways.

Take Joanne Thompson, for instance. A 32-year-old photographer in England, she says she was severly depressed, even having suicidal thoughts before trying MCT. Medicine and therapy weren't helping, but her handheld device did, she says. "Within two months I felt a definite lift in my mood," she says. "After three months I felt I was able to cope with everyday life. It was a very gradual process."

Interesting, right? What do you think? Would you try something like this?
