The 90s chainmail dress is going to be the party dress of 2018, according to Kim Kardashian and Blake Lively

She didn't always hit the right note when it came to her sartorial choices, but Paris Hilton's 21st birthday #lewk was iconic... for all the right reasons.

A barely-there chainmail dress with loose cowl neck, sparkling spaghetti straps and, well, no back at all - it was a fearless fashion moment that near-enough defined party dressing for the decade.

Sixteen years on, and - as is often the case with the fashion industry - the wheels have turned a full 360° and the peak 90s look is officially bang on trend.

Kendall Jenner may have replicated Hilton's look to celebrate the same milestone birthday two years ago, but it wasn't until this season - and what we're dubbing the 'year of Versace' - that the metallic look really took off.

Don't believe me?

Both Kim Kardashian and Blake Lively - two A-listers with often polar opposite style - opted for a version this weekend.

Attending Versace's first ever show in New York City, the pair joined a whole host of other celebs including Lupita N'Yongo, Uma Thurman, Diane Kruger, Paris Jackson and Mary J Blige to watch the Italian label's Pre-Fall 2019 collection make its debut.

While Kim's chainmail number was very much Paris Hilton-inspired, Blake's had a higher neckline a waterfall hem. Both, however, sported spaghetti straps and backlessness.

Same night. Different women. Very different styles. Believe us now?
