XKJ 911 Max | Sub-250 grams with OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE under $100

The XKJ K911 Max is an interesting drone for a lot of reasons. It weighs less than 250 grams so it isn’t subject to registration or remote ID like larger drones. It claims to have an 8K camera and you can even get a model with obstacle avoidance for less than $100. It sounds like the DJI Mini 3 is DOA, right?

When something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. That is the case with the K911. It can’t compete with the DJI Mini series of drones. The camera isn’t the 8K quality it promises. It is however a solid drone to learn how to fly with. It is a GPS drone with a return to home feature. It is pretty stable and easy to fly.

The K911 Max claims a range of up to 1200 meters and a video transmission distance of up to 600 meters. My experience with the drone isn’t quite as positive. I had plenty of control distance but my video feed started to get choppy around 100 meters. The obstacle avoidance is an add-on module and it works fairly well. It spins to sense obstacles but it won’t allow you to avoid them. I’d suggest beginners avoid the OA module and opt for the less expensive version to help them learn how to fly.

Overall I do actually like this little quad quite a bit. It overpromises on features for sure but for $80 you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more stable, sub-250 gram drone to practice your flight skills with. Another favorite drone of mine that costs less than $100 is the Ryze Tello.
