Nielsen moved to Sheffield Wednesday from Nottingham Forest in September 2017.
Glenn Loovens’ suspension allowed Frederik Nielsen to make his debut for Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, four months after the teenager arrived at Hillsborough from Nottingham Forest.
Indeed, it was Nielsen’s first competitive appearance for any of his three clubs – Viborg, Forest and Wednesday – but the Danish Under-19 international did not look out of place for the Owls against Carlisle United in the FA Cup.
Lining up alongside Frederico Venancio and fellow Wednesday Under-23 centre-back Connor O’Grady, Nielsen helped to shut out the League Two side, who were beaten 2-0 by Jos Luhukay’s men.
And with Loovens – who received a two-match ban after picking up his second red card of the campaign in Friday’s 0-0 derby draw against Sheffield United – unavailable for Cardiff City’s visit this weekend, the 19-year-old is in line to keep his place at Hillsborough.
