There’s no more significant moment for an actor than making their big break. The right breakthrough role can be the difference between a financially viable career and a continued struggle to stay afloat. For Evangeline Lilly, portraying Kate Austen in Lost completely changed her life. While Lilly’s made a lot of money since the show debuted, she maintains a connection to that time in her life by driving the car she bought with her early Lost paychecks.

Evangeline Lilly is looking back at the early seasons of Lost and is admitting it’s hard for her to do as she is critical of her acting.
“We would have Lost parties where the cast would get together to watch the show, and when it would be a Kate-centric episode, I would want to curl in a hole and die because I knew I was bad,” she said during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via IndieWire). “And I still to this day will stand by the fact that I can watch the first couple seasons and I cringe because I’m not very good.”
Lost premiered on ABC in 2004 and ran for 6 seasons on the network. Lilly played the role of Kate Austen on the J.J. Abrams series throughout its run. The actor talked about when she finally started feeling comfortable in her television role.

Long before the days of "Breaking Bad," "Game of Thrones," and "Stranger Things," "Lost" was the "must-see" television show that everyone was obsessed with. You simply had to tune in to ABC each week to see the latest shocking plot twist. That shows how radically the entertainment industry has changed. Today, blockbuster shows with budgets that rival feature films are just as high profile as Hollywood's superhero movies. "Lost" set the precedent for the future of entertainment.
In addition to the stunning spectacle of the series, "Lost" employed some creative talents who would go on to be incredibly influential. The series was developed by Damon Lindelof, who would later create both the HBO sci-fi drama "The Leftovers" and the inventive reworking of "Watchmen." The pilot of "Lost" was directed by J.J. Abrams, and the brilliant score from Michael Giacchino made the show feel just as epic as anything that you'd see on the big screen.

Over the years, some female characters have caused an unusual amount of ire in their respective fandoms; rarely is it justified.
We tend to see an unnecessary amount of vitriol getting spewed on characters who are mainly there to act as a foil or cause conflict to the male hero.
The amount a woman gets hated on is often related to how much the fans adore the male characters. In other cases, she might be too flawed, too perfect, or even just exist while being a woman. And let's not forget old-fashioned racism!
Here we'll look at some female characters who have incensed large populations of their show's fandoms and argue about whether it was deserved (Spoiler Alert: It probably wasn't).
Note: Sometimes, the hatred crosses over to the actress playing the hated character, and you can read about some of those here.

"Lost" costars Dominic Monaghan and Evangeline Lilly broke up in 2007 after three years of dating. In an Aug. 31 interview with Anna Faris on her podcast "Unqualified," Monaghan, 45, revealed that the split was his biggest heartbreak. "I think I've only really got my heart broken once in my life," he said. "I was dating an actress on 'Lost' called Evangeline Lilly, who, you know, has gone on to have a name all of her own. And yeah, you know, I don't really know how she would explain the narrative, but from my point of view, it was probably the first time in my life that I was just kind of all in."

Evangeline Lilly, best known for playing Kate Austen in ABC’s drama series “Lost” and for her role as Hope van Dyne/Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, took to social media to confirm her attendance at a Washington D.C. protest over the weekend in support of “bodily sovereignty.” The actress went on to explain that she stands in opposition to government-mandated vaccine policies.
“I believe nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will, under threat of violent attack, arrest or detention without trial, loss of employment, homelessness, starvation, loss of education, alienation from loved ones, excommunication from society…under any threat whatsoever,” Lilly wrote in a post published on her Instagram page.

This article contains spoilers for Big Sky episode 1.
The David E. Kelley-produced crime drama Big Sky premiered its first episode Tuesday night on ABC. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it’s thus far the first and only new pilot from ABC this fall season. And as you may have heard by now, it concludes with one hell of a bang.
The series is set in “big sky” country in Montana and finds two young teenage girls, Grace and Danielle being abducted by a creepy trucker. That puts Danielle’s boyfriends estranged parents, Jenny Hoyt (Katherine Winnick) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe) on the case to find them along with their P.I. pal Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury).
Of course, as episode one reveals, it looks as though Jenny and Cassie will be the only two pursuing the case of the missing young women as Cody Hoyt is now indisposed.

Evangeline Lilly’s big break came in 2004, when she was cast in the role of Kate Austen in the ABC show, Lost. The show, which aired until 2010, made household names of its cast, and turned the aspiring actress into one of the biggest film draws of the noughties. After a brief, self-imposed exile from Hollywood, Lilly returned to our screens in 2013 with The Hobbit, and has since gone on to rack up the credits with such films as Little Evil (2017), Ant Man and the Wasp (2018) and Avenger: Endgame (2019). The final episode of Lost seemed to rub a lot of people the wrong way, mostly because it didn't really answer any of the questions that they wanted to be answered. The series made such an impact on people, though, that fans are still talking about it. I'm currently watching the series again because I'm showing it to my kids and I'm loving it the second time around!
I actually never had any big issues with the finale. I felt it was a satisfying and fair conclusion to the story. I'm sure you all have different opinions on the matter, but for those of you curious to hear the ending of the series explained by Evangeline Lilly, who played Kate Austen the series, she participated in a panel at Dragon Con this past weekend and shared her interpretation of what the ending is supposed to mean.

Carlton Cuse, former screenwriter and frequent showrunner of Lost, has admitted that he would get behind a possible series reboot… on one condition.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Cuse was asked straight-up about the rumors surrounding a potential revival, to which he replied that while Lost 2.0 is good in theory, it would need to recruit an entirely new cast if it was to receive the blessing of Cuse and fellow series veteran Damon Lindelof.
This actually chimes with Evangeline Lilly’s recent comments, after the Ant-Man and the Wasp actress admitted that she currently has no interest in reprising the role of Kate Austen, believing that her story, like the stories of everyone else trapped on that mysterious island, has already been told.
Said Cuse:

Evangeline Lilly Says She Was ‘Cornered’ Into Filming Partially Nude ‘Lost’ Scene: ‘I Was Mortified’

Lost star Evangeline Lilly has found her strength. From 2004 to 2010, the 38-year-old actress played airplane crash survivor Kate Austen for six seasons on ABC's Lost—and in the July 31 episode of The Lost Boys podcast, she shared some behind-the-scenes stories from the set. The role changed Lilly's life, even though she never aspired to be famous. "I would say it was my destiny, because it certainly wasn't my agenda. “We have to go back, Kate!”
Well, no, you don’t, as Evangeline Lilly (Kate Austen) recently conceded that she isn’t all that fussed on a possible reboot of Lost, the ABC drama that’s been off-air since 2010.
While promoting her title role in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, Lilly spoke to Entertainment Weekly (h/t Screen Rant) about that fabled island, and why, after six seasons as fugitive-turned-castaway Kate Austen, she has no desire to return for a potential reboot of the cult sci-fi gem.
This by no means the first time that a Lost reboot has been floated as a possibility for ABC… and that’s the thing. Rumors of a second coming have circulated for months – if not years – only to fizzle out before they gain any real momentum, which is why Evangeline Lilly is unlikely to reprise as Kate Austen. Even if the stars do align.

You can forget about a “Lost” revival that includes Kate Austen, as, unlike seemingly the rest of Hollywood, Evangeline Lilly does not have reboot fever.
“There’s a rumor every year that they are going to reboot ‘Lost,'” Lilly, who starred on the ABC series for its entire six-season run, told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview while promoting “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” “The thing about reboots and remakes is that I don’t like them in general, period. I want people to leave ‘Star Wars’ alone! I did love ‘Rogue One,’ as an aside. But for the most part, I don’t usually love them.”
“I feel like it’s just tainting something that’s precious,” she added. “I’ve said I don’t want to do things in the past and I’ve done them — you know, never say never — but sitting where I am today, my assumption is no.

Ant-Man has always been the runt of the Marvel litter, swimming in the wake of the god-like Thor, the super-cool Iron Man and the bulk of the Hulk. It helps that Paul Rudd is a wonderfully appealing actor with the chops to go deeper. But how can Scott Lang, the petty (ouch, that word) criminal miniaturized into the crime-fighting Ant-Man hope to compete with the titans of the McU? Even the $500 million worldwide box-office gross of the first movie in 2015 pales next to the $2 billion and growing take of Avengers: Infinity War.
