Ruby ter, prosecutors seek six-year jail term for Berlusconi

MILAN – Prosecutors asked for a six-year prison sentence Wednesday for former Italian prime-minister Silvio Berlusconi for allegedly bribing witnesses in the so-called Ruby ter trial.

The media mogul is accused of paying witnesses who attended his “Bunga Bunga” sex parties to remain silent about the events.

A total of 28 sentences ranging between one and six years have been requested by prosecutors. Among them, a five-year jail term for 29-year old Moroccan prostitute Karima El Mahroug, also known by the stage name Ruby Rubacuori; one year and four months for Forza Italia senator Maria Rosaria Rossi (for false testimony); two years for journalist Carlo Rossella (also for false testimony); and six and a half years for Ruby’s ex-boyfriend Luca Risso.

Sentences of up to five years have been sought for twenty girls – former guests of the Arcore evenings – whose silence had allegedly been bought by the former premier.

The Milan Public Prosecutor also asked to confiscate 10.8 million euros from Berlusconi as the "price of corruption" and five million euros from Karima El Mahroug as the "price of the crime."

The trial resumes in June with a verdict expected in September.
