Demystifying Hypnosis PART 2 – The Hypnotic Trance

Q: Can I be put in a trance, hypnotized against my will?

A: NO!

No one can. Imagine how the world would look like, if that would be true.

Goodbye free will!! It works only if you agree to let it happen.

................................................................................

Q: Can you make do things I don’t want to do, while I’m in trance?

A: NO! For the same reasons as above.

................................................................................

Q: Will I reveal something I wouldn't normally do, while I'm in trance?

A: No. Things may come up in your mind, but it is definitely your choice if you want to share them with the Hypnotherapist or not.

................................................................................

Q: How does it really feel like?

A: Unique, it feels different for every person. But overall, I would say it feels relaxing and safe.

My clients tell me various things about how they felt being in “trance”:

— It felt like that moment when you are about to fall into sleep, except you don’t fall asleep

— I know I have a body, but couldn’t really feel it, I felt light, pleasant, relaxed

— I felt like floating, lost track of time

— My arms and hand were tingling

— I saw beautiful colors, felt safe and relaxing

— My body felt heavy, like almost falling asleep

— Felt comfortable, rested, at ease

— It felt like my normal self, resting in bed

— I fell asleep towards the end of the session

— My neck muscles finally relaxed after many months

The experience of a hypnotic trance is not so unusual or strange. It may actually feel quite familiar to many other moments in your life where you were:

— completely absorbed by a movie,

— driving back home and having no memory of how you did that, because you were on autopilot, while the habitual mind, the subconscious was driving your car,

— daydreaming to your next vacation, experience, to the superhero "you" saving the day, to your lover, a shopping marathon and so on.

— perhaps simply meditating.

The depth of a hypnotic trance varies with every individual and experience.

One of the key drivers of the trance dept is the level of TRUST, the report created between the client/person to be hypnotized and the hypnotherapist.

When you feel comfortable with the hypnotherapist, you are willing to “let go” and allow yourself to enter a trance, then you can experience the special power of the mind and imagination.

You are never out of control while being in a trance.

The effect of hypnosis is not dependent on the depth of the trance. It’s actually related to the Hypnotherapist’s skills to guide you into the process, suggestions, experience.

Have a great week!
