Love It or Hate It? New Logistics Workforce Survey Reveals Mixed Feelings about Technology & Automation

With two pandemic years behind us and on the cusp of a new year, the logistics industry is taking stock and making plans for the near future, making the launch of our new DHL Trend Report aptly timed.

Future of Work in Logistics refers to the largest-ever survey of the global logistics workforce, revealing fascinating opinions, preferences, hopes, and fears for the future triggered not just by technology advancement, but also by shifting demographics and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Across the industry, there’s emphatic support for the perceived benefits of digitalization – a better quality of work, improved workplace productivity and safety, developing new skills, and more focus on interesting, valuable tasks.

  • 9 in 10 survey respondents believe technology has been helpful to their role, and will be helpful in the decade ahead
  • But more than 50% feel threatened by automation, particularly older employees working in logistics operations
  • Attitudes to automation vary across geographies, with 69% of respondents in the U.S. and Canada expressing concerns, perhaps because their jobs were negatively impacted by technology in the past, and the least amount of concern in Europe and Oceania with only 37% agreeing with worries

Benchmark the sentiments of your own office and operations employees as you engage with the latest DHL Trend report. https://bit.ly/3ox5tRm #dhlfutureofwork #dhlinnovation #logistics #supplychain #digitalwork #AI #automation #workforcetren

In line with Heiko thoughts. I could add technology and automation + responsible AI are powerful tools 🚀 If used with the right purpose, with everyone on board and a wide 360° view, they´ll help us to build a brilliant future for humanity 🌎  Thank you Matthias for sharing.

Love it! Life is all about change, especially these days. We need to embrace change every day. We live in days of digital transformation. This brings with it cultural transformation. Leaders must be role models in leadership culture. Technology and Automation is changing our way we think, work and live faster than we can adopt to it. Jobs will shift, workers must be enabled for further education. We must put the human workforce at the center of what we do by enabling them to use new technology to be more productive and not by inventing technology to replace them.
