The four-week-old puppy is now in the care of My Lovely Horse Rescue.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Gardaí stopped a young puppy from being traded for drugs.

The puppy was in the middle of a deal, but at around 1am, Gardaí from Kevin Street Station intervened and stopped the deal.

My Lovely Horse Rescue confirmed that the dog was now in their care.

"We got nourishment into her, but she's malnourished.

"She's only going on four weeks old.

"Where's her mother? Where's her siblings?  What happened?

"Did they just take her and say we can swap her for something?

"This happens all the time, people rob their mother and father's jewellry, or tv, to swap for drugs, it's very sad that it's the case.

"It's all over the world, but if they're starting to barter in animals, that gets scarey."
