Paul Breitner: Real Madrid's western actor

Real Madrid Footballer, actor and activist

Real Madrid signed Paul Breitner in 1974 and one year later the German footballer was asked to participate in a German western movie.

After a few months, the World Cup winner swapped his shirt for a vest, and his ball for a rifle, as he took played a role in a film called 'Potato Fritz'.

His role was that of Sergeant Stark, a man in charge of protecting a shipment of gold from the Indians. The film's director, Peter Schamoni, praised the German's acting skills.

Apart from being an actor and an extraordinary football player, Breitner was also an activist, who donated half a million pesetas to workers of Standar Electrica, who had been in a long strike, after General Franco's death in 1976.

He returned to Germany in 1977, where he played for six seasons before deciding to hang up his boots, following some years full of pleasant memories in Madrid.
