Pune : Over 200 Kg Of Charas Suspected To Have Dumped From Foreign Vessel Seized From Coastal Areas
Pune 18th August 2023: The Custom officials of the Dapoli Custom Division conducted an intense search in the coastal areas of Maharashtra between Karde Beach, Kelshi Beach and Borya Beach and have seized around 200 Kg of Charas. The extensive search was conducted between August 14 and August 17 after the officials found unclaimed packages at the Karde Beach near Dapoli.
According to the officials, a total of 10 suspected packages weighing around 11 Kg were recovered from Karde beach and after drug detection testing conducted using the kit it was confirmed that the packages contained Charas (Hashish). In view of the sensitivity of the matter, the custom officials were instructed to conduct extensive search at the adjacent beaches which led to the recovery of around 200 Kg of Charas in just 4 days.
This include 11.88 Kg Charas recovered from Karde Beach, 34.91 Kg from Karde to Ladghar Beach, 24.99 Kg from Kelshi Beach, 13.4 Kg from Kolthare Beach, 14.41 Kg from Murud Beach, 100.95 Kg from Burondi to Dabhol Creek and 21.85 Kg from Borya Beach.
“From the packaging material, the contraband appears to be of Afghanistan/Pakistan origin and might have been fallen/dumped from a foreign vessel” said the custom officials.
The custom officials have also appealed to the local people residing along the coast to immediately inform the Dapoli Custom Office if they find any such suspected package that may contain contraband. It is also warned that anyone found in possession of such narcotics substance from the sea cost an appropriate action will be initiated against the concerned person under NDPS Act which may lead to imprisonment up to 10 years.
