“The Notebook,” the beloved 2004 movie based on the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name that starred Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, is coming to Broadway thanks in large part to one former Staten Islander.

Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, a Staten Island Technical High School alumna, is behind the original music and lyrics of the show, which had a recent run at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

The “You and I” singer made the announcement on her Instagram Thursday morning after teasing the news the previous day.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this. The [”Notebook” musical] is going to Broadway!” she wrote.

According to Michaelson, previews will begin at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Feb. 6, 2024, with opening night planned for March 14. There’s no word on casting just yet.

“Musical theater has always been in my bones,” Michaelson continued. “But to be able to create a musical with [Bekah Brunstetter] as my copilot, [Carmel Dean] as my musical guide and [Michael Greif] and [Schele Williams] directing has been an adventure I never knew I could have. And many more amazing humans! I hope to see you at the theater. I’ll be the one clapping the loudest, laughing the loudest, and probably crying the loudest.

Michaelson has nine studio albums under her belt, as well as two platinum singles in “The Way I Am” and “Girls Chase Boys.” Her music has appeared in several TV shows and films; her song “Keep Breathing,” which appeared in a 2007 episode of the TV drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” catapulted the singer into the spotlight.

In addition to her own musical successes, Michaelson is credited as the executive music producer for AppleTV’s “Slumberkins,” and is behind the score of Hulu’s “Tiny Beautiful Things.”
