Signed and dated 1640, this imaginary interior by Bartholomeus van Bassen opens up onto an expansive view of the central nave of a Gothic church and its side altars.  It is notable for its soaring arches, supported by thin columns adorned with epitaphs and coats of arms, as well as the delicate rood screen, or the partition between the chancel and the nave in a church.  The elegantly attired figures that animate the scene may have been painted by Anthonie Palamedesz.
