Around these parts, "fish" goes with "fries" like "St." goes with "Louis."
Fish-fry hopping is the region's favorite sport — and there are plenty of fish fries to choose from. The area boasts more than 130 fish fries on Fridays throughout Lent, at American Legion halls and VFW posts, at clubs and especially at churches, most of them Catholic.
Even so, that is fewer fish fries than were held just a few years ago. Last year's consolidation of Catholic churches means that a handful of places that used to hold them are now closed.
But don't fret. That only means there will be more fish at the other places.
