After a few long and difficult years spent trying (and, frustratingly, failing) to legally separate herself from the producer she accused of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, in August 2017, Kesha was finally able to release her triumphant album Rainbow, which was immediately lauded by many as one of the best albums of the year. Now, on the anniversary of Rainbow's debut, Kesha is releasing a documentary that not only details the making of the album, but also explores how creating the album allowed her to work through her trauma and offered her something of a lifeline.

In a new trailer for the documentary, which will stream exclusively on Apple Music beginning on August 10, Kesha says, "Sometimes things feel like, like they're too much to handle. You may be able to pull it together and put on a front in front of others, while inside, you're trapped, suffocating slowly." The trailer shows snippets of moments from the last year or two of Kesha's life, including shots of her performing onstage—"You don't own me!" she shouts at one point—shooting her otherworldly music videos, touring across the globe, and seeking support from her friends, family, and bandmates. "This record has, quite literally, saved my life," she adds in a voiceover.

"Making Rainbow the album was such a therapeutic process, and given the opportunity to turn it into a three-dimensional piece of art has helped me find even deeper healing and catharsis," Kesha said in a statement about the documentary, according to Billboard. "I hope this film inspires others to never give up even if you feel full of hurt or lost, because after the storm comes a rainbow. Depression, anxiety, and mental illness are things we all need to talk about more, and there is no shame in asking for help. Making the decision to work on yourself is the bravest thing you can do. I hope this film helps bring light and love to everyone."
