Bitterballen: A Delicious Traditional Dutch Snack

Deliciously meaty and melts in your mouth.

Bitterballen, the first time I heard it, I wondered to myself “is this a bitter meatball?” My cousin chuckled. While I was right that it’s in a shape of a meatball, this traditional dutch snack is nothing like bitter at all. In fact, it’s deliciously meaty and melts in your mouth. I could easily eat about ten of these!

I was told that this tasty traditional dutch snack is made of flour, egg white, beef, breadcrumbs, leek, onion, herbs and some spices. No, they’re not spicy. Paired with some good beer, and nomnomnom!

I’d highly recommend you give this a shot when visiting the Netherlands. And let me know how you like it.

And if you’re interested in making some at home, here’s a link to the recipe.

Overall Verdict: I could eat ten of these easily! *burp*
