Kitten killed by a Shiba Inu at Hong Kong Pet Show

A dog killed a kitten by breaking its neck when their owners visited the Hong Kong Pet Show in Wan Chai on Sunday.

The cat owner reported to the police, accusing the dog’s owner to have left after the deadly incident. Officers are investigating the case as cruelty to animals but did not arrest anyone.

Posting to a cat lovers’ Facebook group on Sunday night, the cat owner Gloria Leung, also an exhibition staff, said that she carried her cat inside a bag at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“A man and a woman brought four Shiba Inu dogs in two pet strollers,” Leung described. “One of their dogs stuffed its head into my bag, biting and swinging my cat.”

The cat died after its neck was broken.

“The dog owners said their dogs always bite cats,” Leung claimed.

She also criticized the dog owners for not putting mouth covers on the shiba inus and leaving immediately after the accident.

Leung reported to the police and urged netizens to provide information for the investigation.

“The cat died terribly. Please help!” Leung wrote.

The dog owners apologized on a Facebook page Fong Gut Shiba Inu at 1 am yesterday and said that no one wanted the accident to happen.

They rejected the accusation that they left after the incident, saying the incident happened so suddenly and quickly that they were looking for a first aid station inside the venue. They also tried to find the cat owner.

“We only wanted to go to the first aid station to learn about the cat’s condition. We have no intention to leave right after the accident,” the dog owners stated. “The surveillance camera can prove that.”

They also stressed that they did not say their dogs often bite cats.

The dog owners sent an email to the pet show organizer and exhibitors for surveillance camera recordings.

They promised to cooperate with the investigation and hoped to apologize to the cat owner in person.

The two once suspended their Facebook page, saying many netizens dug out information about their family and friends, or even threatened them: “They are completely irrelevant to the accident, we do not want them to be affected.”

Leung did not accept their explanation.

“The accident happened at about 3.30pm, but you left half an hour later."

"My colleagues in the exhibition booth also heard what you said very clearly. Please stop lying,”  she wrote.

Police said they received a report about a cat’s death in a pet show at about 4.30pm Sunday. The case was classified as cruelty to animals and is still under investigation. No one was arrested.

Netizens also criticized dog owners for not being responsible. “If you know your dog bite  cats, why didn't you put a mouth cover on it?” a netizen questioned.

“The cat died so miserably and innocently, which we must help to fight for justice,” another netizen said.
