On the evening of March 15, 2009, a small group gathered at the Cobridge community centre in Stoke-on-Trent to hear an infamous hate preacher deliver his usual tirade against the West.

Anjem Choudary was on fast-talking form, delighted that the local press had turned up to carry his appeal beyond the small knot of local acolytes.

“The unique thing about Islam is that it has a solution for every problem,” he announced.
